Who will be the next Limerick manager?

That would be some going for a no mark Tipp redneck.[quote=“Podrick, post:1714, topic:20525, full:true”]
I’ll leave a mark on the back of your head with the Liam McCarthy Cup you spoon.

I picked up Unlimited Heartbreak again last night to remind myself whether SLR had interviewed his fellow club man. There is only a very short paragraph quoting Kiely who tells a story about Adrian O’Sullivan (RIP).

However this is what Quigley said about Kiely. Hopefully he still has some of that Limerick madness and passion

Did that book sell well in Limerick?

Did many of you Limerick GAA thread regulars read it? Please confirm.

This lad sounds like a bit of a simpleton

This can be a problem though. Irs tge same as my club, limerick players/fans/cb see the manager as the all saving key ingredient. However thats not always the case. A coach can inky do so much. The attitude of the players and their intrinsic motivation is critical.

Thats why i believe sometimes dropping moany/disruptive star players works. They either shit or get off the pot. Ability is critical, but in amateur sports 25 mad cunts willing to eat up anything a coach has and learn will generally be more successful.

This appointment seems to be a landmark one for Limerick hurling in my time following the team. As it makes sense to everybody, the fans are happy, the money men are delighted and the county are happy also while the players will have a lot of respect for Kiely too. The fans will be right behind this ticket from the get go and while expectations will be raised if things don’t go to plan it will be the players that’ll feel the brunt of it as time is running out for the most of them. Kiely is ruthless and has an intelligent hurling brain. He won’t be threatened by either of his coaches and will let them get on with things for the most part when needed. He’ll have the team fighting fit, well drilled and hurling as a team. He’s also a brilliant man manager. You can’t ask for much more than that. While expectations go wild in Limerick very easily with this management team and a decent group of players we should be a q/f team at least under Kiely for the next few years. It’s going to be very difficult for Kiely to beak into the Galway/tip/kk axis but there’s no harm in trying and as Waterford showed with the right system over a few years you can get close.

He also has probably the hardest job to do in getting out of 1B than the last few. Galway are a much tougher proposition than the Clare, Cork, Dublin teams we’ve had to beat (failed to beat) to get out of 1B the last few years. Fans probably won’t expect much out of him in that regard and we’re massive underdogs if we play Waterford or tipp next summer, so expectation is low which sets him up nicely too.

I dont know who that Quigley fella is, but he sounds like a right cunt, Fitzgibbon me hole.

The biggest problems facing Kiely will be identifying our number 6, how he’ll handle the transition of the fullback spot while also getting some scoring forwards from somewhere.

Former Na Pairsaig hurler. Shur you know what they are like.

Yes but unlike Galway Limerick can focus fully on the league and the current league structure does soften the blow of being in 1B.

No bother to him

Was thinking about that and I am not sure it is the worst thing ; Galway are fairly settled and let’s be honest next year it will be an all Ireland or bust . Also their champions will be in all Ireland series next spring ( Lk’s might too) . Galway will be in quarters anyway and will get a game there . They will have an early enough start in Leinster too . Lk have Galway at home so that isca plus .

That said Lk have a tricky trip to Wexford Park.

Could be a lively campaign.

I read it. Enjoyed it too even though I’m not from limerick. Wouldn’t win any awards but easy read

Dunno how it sold but I’d imagine well below an rugby “autobiographies” or another book about beating a hungover NZ second team in 1978.

I read it and it was not bad. I think SLR real interest is intrigue and hurling in Linerick provides plenty on that score.

Gavin or O’Connell, full back it’s a question of form (which may well be fitness related) between the two Richie’s. Up front there’s plenty of new and old options. The hope would be we’ll finally see more from players that haven’t hit the heights expected -they no longer have the poor management/coaching excuse.
