Match of the day is a dead duck.
Always thought linekar was a prick too. I preferred it on itv with des lynam.
Showing your age there chief. Lynam was a stall-worth on the BBC MOTD coverage for years.
I only tune in occasionally, but with highlights so widely available now on youtube & twitter it feels like viewership will dwindle over time. It had its purpose back in the good days, though.
I don’t mind Chappers.
Who was the guy on itv then
It’s had it’s day

I used to have a choice of missing the epl high lights on Rte in favour of mass on a Saturday evening but was given the carrot of being allowed stay up late with my babysitter to watch on itv at half ten.
The BBC lost the rights for MOTD back in the late 90’s/early 00’s I want to say for around 4 years or so. Lynam went with the show. Lineker was a pundit with Hanson and Lawro. Then he started presenting for the FA cup and internationals and got the MOTD gig once the Beeb won it back.
*All those dates and timelines are open to correction.
ITV had a tactics truck
I remember watching Erik edmans goal v Liverpool on Rte 2 live.
If I remember rightly Lynam left because the BBC stopped doing live football.
He wanted to work Live football.

Lynam left when BBC still had the rights in 1999. ITV had the rights from 2001 to 2004.
Lineker was hilariously shit when he started dipping his toes into punditry on Sportsnight around 1994/95.
Lynam leaving was the making of him.
Lynam was shit on ITV. Any presenter or commentator who ITV poach from BBC automatically loses about 90% of their powers just because they’re no longer on BBC.
That’s 2002/03 I’d say.

I can confirm this
Bizarrely I also remember this goal live. A real “he’s never shooting from there” effort
That’s 2002/03 I’d say.
Life was simple back then.
Lads you will never guess this BUT i remember watching the goal live too on The Premiership.
