Who would be the biggest and the best Hurley makers in the country?

I’m glad of this thread.

Up home and took a few pics of the Hurley Shed. It’ll be cleaned up later by Ben and Jerry though they don’t know it yet . But I got quite nostalgic looking around it. The auld boy is out there right now, I can hear the plainer whining away in the background, getting a hurl ready for a chap out in Dubai. Dad has more years behind him than in front of him but he says he’s going to keep tippin away at the hurls as it’s all he really has.
Anyway, the process was spoken about earlier on this thread, I’ll put the pictures in order best I can.

Does your dad sell online? I’m about to post a monstrosity that’ll show you why I’m asking

Look at the state of this thing. Got it a few years back to puck around on the beach with the dog. 15 quid in Lidl or somewhere and you’d know it. I didn’t hurl past u16 so whatever I’d be using for the previous 20 years for just smacking a ball around was whatever I had back then.

Apologies to the purists. If I knew how to spoiler, I would

The Hayes brothers wouldn’t be buying any auld shit from the likes of the Cannings, whether they’re neighbours or not.

It’s like a replica of Ronan O’Dea’s workshop in Ardrahan

Roaster alert

Exact copy of it.

Dad has an iPhone that he takes calls on, that’s it! On a good day he’ll make a call.

PM me what you need and I’ll sort you out.

The hurls for the Galway team in the 1st All Ireland were made in that workshop.

It’s a shame I didn’t come across this thread earlier, there are a few recommendations I’d like to try.

Struggling to get decent sticks here in the North. I recently went against my better judgement and ordered online from Torepy. I ordered one for myself (just to have, the 6 star as its allegedly their best Ash) and a few for the kids. Asked for all sticks to be light in weight. What they posted me was an insult and I wasn’t long emailing them back. If that’s a 6 star hurley I’d hate to see the rest. Had to send all the kids sticks back, way too heavy. They were nice enough in customer services but said they didn’t have anything better to post me out. I don’t know if that’s the case or not, might just have been looking rid of me and I’d have found a few nice sticks if I’d gone along there in person but did really fancy a 400 odd mile round trip. I sincerely hope they didn’t look at the address and postcode and post any crap up here.

Anyway, Bourkes sports have a shop in belfast and I went there yesterday with little expectation tbh thinking the cast offs would probably go to the shop up here. But they’d had a fresh delivery and I got my pick, ended up with 7 between myself and the kids as I couldn’t not take some of them.

Lesson learned re shopping online for sticks, but I’m definitely keen to try some of the names mentioned. Ps I normally buy canning for the kids as they are young and the thin handle and lightweight suits them at that age with a small hand. Have tried Star but the handle even on the kids sticks is quite broad I find, esp for U11 and U10s.

Idea!! Pm me, I’d love to try them. They look the part at least.

@Locke will look after you. He’s alright for a bollox.

Very hard to go wrong with a Ramie Dowling
