Why is Rugby So Annoying?

Ebeneezer I lived in Glasgow for a few years. Many of the nordies trucking over to sing rebel songs were little short of pathetic and we avoided them like the plague. That old firm rivalry, and I went to lots of them in both places, poisoned the city. If I were still there now, and I absolutely live the place, I would t let the kids anywhere near it. Google a young lad called mark Scott and you will see where all that poisonous ancient obsolete bile brings us. Rugby is a great game to play and for all the shite around it you never ever feel an atmosphere of incipient or potential violence around it like you do at a big soccer match. The “green army” " best supporters in the world" " everybody loves us " soccer bandwagoners of the nineties and noughties were fucking way worse. And openly disrespecting another countries national anthem in this day and age is childish to be honest. The ulster lads that play for Ireland are not orange traitors. They are mostly irish and patriotic as you or I or indifferent and show absolute respect for our anthem.

Sectarianism in Scotland predates soccer. There were more anti Catholic organisations in Scotland than actual Catholics before the wave of Irish immigration. That’s how bigoted the traditional Scottish society is. Blaming the modern manifestations of that bigotry on soccer is a convenient excuse for Scotland. It lays the blame nice and equally and glosses over the anti Irish and anti Catholic attitudes still so prevalent.

There are only about 5 National Anthems worth giving a fuck about, I never saw the big deal about them myself. Ireland’s Call is a fucking dirge but most National Anthems are. Not a reason to rail against a united Ireland IMHO.

It sounds like it was written by a six year old and could only genuinely be enjoyed by people with the mentality of a six year old. Abrhán na bhFiann is on a different level musically with it’s sombre beginning to a gradual build-up of tension and melody to a powerful crescendo. It’s a fine anthem and worth giving a fuck about, the other thing is an embarrassment quite frankly.

He’s saying that a lot of republicans are not really republican at all and have no interest in accommodating Protestants or Orangemen in a united Ireland. For a good number of years the Irish flag was almost changed by default to green white and gold in what seems to have been an airbrushing of the orange part and the flag’s original purpose as a representation of peace between the two communities. Fairly fucking obvious I would have thought.
