Wimbledon 2015

Wimbledon is only a couple of weeks away and the grass court season gets into full swing today with the start of Queens. Great line up of players for Queens with 14 of the top 20 players playing. Be interesting to see how Nadal does agianst the big guys after his win in the ATP 250 event in Stuttgart where he Trioki in the final.

The Gerry Weber Open on over in Halle as well. Federer toiled to a 7-6 3-6 7-6 win over Philipp Kohlschreiber.

presume you meant to say " the tennis season starts today"

Mickee, I was being diplomatic by not saying that, but you are correct the tennis seasons starts with the return of grass courts. Proper tennis none of that clay shite.

Nadal beaten in the first round 6-3 6-7 6-4 by the unseeded Alexandr Dolgopolov.

He is better off sticking to those ATP 250 events.

A 4th title at Queens for Murray and an 8th title for Federer in Halle.

James McGee plays #153 ranked Tobias Kamke in first round qualifying tomorrow. McGee is #155 I think. So I’m speculating it might be close.

James McGee won the first set on a tie break and a game down in the second 2-3. going with serve at the moment.

I see on RTE that McGee lost in 3.

Yep and there ends Irelands involvement in Wimbledon.

Do we have nobody umpiring this year, mate?

We still have Judy Murray. She may not have an Irish passport but her spirit and temperament is wonderfully Irish.

There could be a umpire of Irish decent like Jame Keothavong or maybe a lines person or 2 in there somewhere.

Wimbledon seeding are out. Nadal 10th seed. How the mighty have fallen.

1 Novak Djokovic (Ser),
2 Roger Federer (Swi),
3 Andy Murray (GB),
4 Stan Wawrinka (Swi),
5 Kei Nishikori (Jpn),
6 Tomas Berdych (Cze),
7 Milos Raonic (Can),
8 David Ferrer (Spa)
9 Marin Cilic (Cro),
10 Rafael Nadal (Spa),
11 Grigor Dimitrov (Bul),
12 Gilles Simon (Fra),
13 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (Fra),
14 Kevin Anderson (SA),
15 Feliciano Lopez (Spa),
16 David Goffin (Bel)

The winner of Murray/Dimitrov to be 2015 lawn tennis champion.

Where did get Dimitrov from? His form this year has been woeful, he has barely featured at the business end of a slam or an ATP 1000 event since Wimbledon last year.

Having actually looked at his 2015 record, you’re right. I still have last years Wimbledon in my head. Hoping the SW19 air brings out the best in him. He certainly appears relaxed;

Draw made today. Murray is seeded to meet Federer in the quarter final. Nadal hasn’t been too badly punished for dropping out of the Top 8 in that he’s seeded to play the weakest of the top 8 seeds - David Ferrer in the Round of 16, winner seeded to face Murray.

Toughest possible first round draw for Djokovic, 33 ranked Philipp Kohlschreiber. Be interesting to see how he’ll bounce back after crushing disappointment of losing French Open final and not playing Queens or Halle.

Up and running at the Championship.

Good start from the defending gentlemans champion - early break in the first set to go 2-0 up on Kohlschreiber. Actually, scratch that, Kohlschreiber has broken straight back.

Nick the Greek has already advanced to Round 2 and the reigning US Open champion is two sets up.
