Wine

Wine appreciation thread. Don’t know too much but let’s have a go. Generally drink red, all I know of white is I don’t like a lot of it but do like Pinot grigio and albariño. Red, I generally buy Spanish or south American wines. My reasoning being, I tend to like them, while Australian wines are awful, French wines are oversidised overproduced and overpriced (though some are lovely but a bit pricey), and Italian wines I’ve found either gorgeous or awful but inconsistent.

One thing I’m sure of is I’ve never had a bad carmenere from chile. Gorgeous stuff. And Argentinian malbec is usually very very good. Having a glass of it now and it’s gorgeous stuff.

I think you should maybe merge your thoughts with this legend of the forum who mused on the same topic many years ago, glasagusban.

Insightful stuff there.

can’t stand that piss…or the absolute bolloxes that pontificate about it  :guns:

I’m having a bottle of Salice Salentino here that I got in Lidl for 5.99. Wine bargain of the year.

5 Euro wine and second hand televisions, times are tough for poor auld Fagan.

You wouldn’t throw him a few squids there would you, or a nice Burgundy from your cellar?

Never knew Burgundy was a good accompaniment to squid.

Au contraire, a slightly chilled Pinot Noir goes excellently with seafood, especially squid (and squid ink)
Muldoons, sigh.

Odd this thread doesn’t have more input, given the number of world travelers and wine drinkers we have on here. Sad to see @anon61956325 spending weeks in Italy and drinking the piss ordinary beer you’d get in many pubs in Cork. While surrounded by great wines that would appeal to his missus and himself.

Occasionally a wine blows you away, this is one of them. Made by Dave Phinney of The Prisoner fame, one of the worlds finest blenders. This is a Grenache with small amounts of Syrah and Carrigan from near the Pyrenees. Outstanding wine.

Where, price etc…

Picked it up here in Cali for $22. It must be easily available in the UK and by extension Northern Ireland.

Can we have a clue?

Carignan

I haven’t seen any decent Topaz stations over here, but when I do I’ll be sure to pick up a few bottles of red .

What’s the question?

Yes. For some reason I always confuse an obscure southern French grape varietal with an obscure village in Cavan.
