With rent increasing is now the time to buy a 2nd property from the bank

I’d presume the cost of renting in Munich or Berlin or wherever would be significantly cheaper than Dublin in relative terms.

And you’d get paid more in Dublin I’d say. The cost of living in Dublin would be higher alright.

Some people never buy, they use savings and forward planning to pay for rent after retirement.

I don’t get @Massey point.

One other thing - is it right that RTE seem to have a property porn show on every second day when we have a housing crisis .?

Much of a muchness in the avg industrial wage.

How can you save and forward plan for rent when the rental market is obscenely out of control?

That’s partly why the Germans are obsessed with inflation

You live within your means. Or you move.

Move where?

Somewhere else. You moved did you?

I did.

You’re speaking like a real I’m Alright Jack.

That’s the policy at the moment alright. You can see why it’s such a bad one for society.

You may interpret it that way.

You’re using other people as a vehicle for your outrage even though you’re alright jack.

It’s a bad situation but it isnt as desperate as you make out. There are alternatives

You’re hatred of the government occupies your every waking second and clouds every argument you make

It’s not ideal, for sure.

It works in the continent due to long lease agreements with the rent locked at a price and increases pre agreed tied to inflation. Over there they have line of sight in they have a home for 20 years and know its costing x amount. You can reassess at the end of theclease to upsize or downsize depending on your circumstances. Its a very good system that we unfortunately are no where near. There is a place for that kind of lease I ireland too but without rent controls there is no incentive for landlords to give long term leases. Turn over tenants every 2/3 years and add 20% to the rent each time

You know, it really is that bad, and for many there are no alternatives.

I’m not an Alright Jack.

I’ve had to move around different jobs for the past decade, I wasn’t born into money. I’ve pissed at least 60k away on rent in the past 10 or so years.

So I have suffered from the policies, maybe you had your parents or your in laws forking out a deposit for you but that doesn’t apply to everyone. I come from humble origins so I feel obliged to speak up for them being screwed. We have seen the contempt you clearly hold for the working class in the past.

to debt or to connaught

yeah mate, speak up for them on here, you’re doing great work

I rented in Dublin. I couldn’t afford to rent where i was working so I rented in a shithole in Hartstown and commuted for 90/120 minutes to where I was working over in Dundrum. You have to make sacrifices when you move to the big City kid

Who has no alternatives Glas? There is always an alternative. It isn’t a single track.

This no alternatives mindset is the real trap here. Being forced to think one way

I did make sacrifices. Doesn’t matter where you work in Dublin, any sort of shitbox is going to cost you a fortune in rent. If you go outside the city it’s going to cost you a fortune in commuting by car, train or bus.

I think it’s becoming clear that someone forked out a big deposit for you, you are one of the lucky ones but not everyone has that luxury so your lucky benefits don’t apply to everyone so stop attempting to downplay things.

I worked four jobs to get my mortgage son, I sacrificed life for 3 years.
