With rent increasing is now the time to buy a 2nd property from the bank

Also what’s the term on mortgages these days?
Like are couples in their mid 30’s taking out 30 year mortgages that will basically take them right up to retirement?

You got a nice wedge from your parents or your in laws.

Be honest.

What’s the alternative for young people from Dublin whose jobs are in Dublin?

I never got a handout in my life. I worked the pubs, my career job, delivered food and did warehouse work and newspaper rounds on the weekends. I never stopped for 3 years

3 years won’t save a person renting in Dublin their deposit.

So I think you are looking like a spoofer.

they can go abroad, they can get a job outside Dublin, they can remote work if possible, they can commute into Dublin from outside Dublin.

People got in the trap that they have to live in Dublin are adding to the problems of living in Dublin

That’s the default on the term the initial mortgage offer the banks give you. Dangles the carrot of the lowest monthly payment to the borrower but not broadcasting the overall cost they’ll pay

OK mate.

Again it’s personal with you.

Can they?

Where can they do that?

Dublin is where the most job opportunities lie for Irish people, which is why most people end up there.

You’re a real I’m Alright Jack as much as you wish to deny it.

you’re refusing to accept there are alternatives. You’re part of the problem
Instead screaming about social injustice and not doing a fucking thing about…
Outrage for the sake of outrage.

People make decisions. People who feel compelled to go to Dublin and add to an already worsening situation are adding to the existing problems.

You’ve made it personal. You clearly live in the clouds and have no idea bout the challenges facing people who are not on the property ladder now.

If you go onto Daft now you will see you are looking at around a minimum of 700-800 for any bog standard room in Dublin. That’s about 7-8k rent plus bills for the most basic accommodation available in Dublin. Not many people will be saving a deposit up for a Dublin home in 3 years when they are renting. I’m just exposing your dismissiveness for the nonsense it is - if you take that personally well then that’s on you.

there are some people living in cloud cuckoo land here, real fucking head the balls altogether

they want people to be able to rent in a nice place, live the high life in the capital City, and be able to save for a nice 4 bed semi D, without having to sacrifice anything.

The world over, if you chose to live in the City you make sacrifices. It’s a lifestyle choice

People don’t feel compelled to go to Dublin. It’s where jobs generally are. And whose to blame for having an economy where employment is centred around one housing stressed area in the country? Government.

But it’s the people’s fault apparently.

This is nonsense.

You really are a horrible wanker.

A shithole box room in Dublin will cost you 800 a month, possibly sharing with wankers or weirdos plus bills. But apparently these people aren’t willing to sacrifice something.

You clearly know nothing about hardship.

That is indeed the current situation. It’s not a good situation, in fact it’s terrible for lots of reasons and is creating a lot of societal problems.

No doubt it’s from years of mismanagement and policy failure. No doubt

So knowing that, knowing it’s a cesspit and there’s no houses, what to people do, they still go, because they are trapped in the “I have to go to Dublin” mindset, ignoring the alternatives.

Too narrow

It’s life.

That’s not true of cities that have a functional housing market.

That’s where the jobs are.

What jobs are there for a person from Longford, Leitrim or Cavan?

Are there no jobs in Cork, Galway, Limerick, Kilkenny or Waterford no? None?
