With rent increasing is now the time to buy a 2nd property from the bank

I always assumed AirBnB was in greater numbers in more rural tourist areas

Are you buying in a development?

Ask for a deep clean of the house and power washing of the outside as part of the snagging

Yes, it’s a new build. I’ve a mate who is gonna do the snagging. Did it for a friend of ours about a year ago, and he gave them a fuck off list of things to do. This fella wouldn’t miss a thing.

Check your gardens too if you have one - builders have a habit of burying their rubbish and waste under the topsoil that doesn’t come apparent till down the line

How would you check that? :joy:

Have a little dig or metal detector

I’d take Spidey seriously here, especially with regard to his avatar!

And while you’re at it have a look around the site and see is there topsoil piled up somewhere. If there is slip a lad a few quid to fire a few dumper loads of it into the garden. While they’re possibly offering lawns laid the level of soil underneath might be 6” or less. It’ll take you a day or two to spread it but you’ll be thankful for ever. Best of luck with it.

We are about to hit an absolute shit show over the coming few months… Students, Ukrainians, foreign workers all competing for accommodation that’s not there. Daft have said last month was the worst on record since they formed… 700 rental properties nation wide

If only we could have seen this coming about eight or ten years ago.

Absolute shit show is correct. We had a massive shortage of all accommodation anyway and we’ve added 40k refugees on top of this. Now taking in the refugees was and is the right thing to do but is not without consequences. There will be students who will not be able to take chosen courses due to not being able to find suitable or affordable accommodation and there will be refugees staying in unsuitable accommodation also. The government can and should be blamed for the housing crisis, it’s actually difficult to see how they could’ve handled housing worse in the last 10 years but they couldn’t have foreseen adding 40k into the mix as we traditionally have been very poor at accepting refugees.

Could they forsee that 40k become 140k I wonder? If so will staring up at the sky fix it?

Ten years ago nobody wanted to build anything as nobody could buy it

Has any political party got a workable plan to deliver the housing needed.

Anecdotally private buyers are not buying new apartments to live in as they are afraid of not being able to trade up as their housing needs change and they need higher deposit etc

I’d take a nice easy to maintain apartment of semi decent quality, if it could be found, not in some hellhole like Steamboat Quay e.g. in Limerick. We don’t do that type of apat type housing outside cities much.
A lot of shit quality ones built during the Tiger years. Jesus, that estate out in Annacotty, what was it called, with the 3 story houses. Any one I have been in had crap quality finishing, warped windows upstairs, gaps in skirting board. They obviously got the apprentices to practice on those places.
They built the nice ones near the road, and the rest was of mixed quality.
But it would be nice to be able to buy an apartment in the countryside or smaller town.

They’ll conveniently conflate the two issues to cover themselves for the last 10 years and say nobody could have predicted the amount of people displaced and the resulting impact on accommodation provision. Doing all we can, morally the right thing to do, unfortunate consequences for some people etc etc.

As a TD you’d want your head examined not to frustrate housing developments in your constituency.

They’re already doing it. Varadkar said all of that in a statement yesterday. Almost word for word
