While Lahm played an awful lot of football at left bacl it seems to be a conscious decision at club and international level that those days are over. Heās actually a very good crosser of the ball and getting him attacking on the right helps that.
There are two potential left backs in the squad (Jansen and Aogo) but I think they feel they need height back there and to get one full back staying deep the whole time, hence the slight imbalance.
