World Cup 2018 Qualifying Permutations-AKA Braz is no fun

Okay guys, are all these posts kind, true, necessary and do they add to the silence?

Iā€™ve just spotted a fatal, elementary flaw in the analysis I posted this morning, so please withdraw all ā€œlikesā€ for it.

Wales need to play to win whatever Scotland do today.

You canā€™t say Iā€™m not self-deprecating or donā€™t have Dublin GAA-style humility.

Guys, thatā€™s what they call the commentatorā€™s eye.

Slovakia finish second in the Scotland group. Can they claim a play off spot under any circumstances or is this definitely the group to miss out?

cc @Sidney.

Slovakia must wait for the results of Wales v Eire and Ukraine v Croatia.

If either of those finish as a draw Slovakia are in the play-offs, if neither finish as a draw, they are out.

Thanks, mate. I thought the absence of Brown and Armstrong along with Strachanā€™s inherent stubbornness and refusal to play the likes of McGregor and the quick turnaround when heā€™s relying on some immobile players would all combine to work in our favour. Iā€™m not looking for any praise for it though.

Ah come on . They predicted the Scottish team would shit their togs . Hardly Nostradamus .

@Sidney, what way are the seedings done for the play offs? Is it the four highest ranked 2nd placed teams, the four highest ranked teams in the FIFA rankings or are they just hand picked?

Four highest in the FIFA world rankings.

One of Portugal or Switzerland and Italy will definitely be seeded.

Ireland could be a seeded team if two of Wales, Croatia and Slovakia go out.

Slovakia are the most precariously placed of the second placed teams so presumably the overwhelming likelihood is that if Eire do advance to the play offs, Ireland will be one of the four seeded sides they could draw.
