What an opening day
Delighted for John, gutted for Liang. It was that sort of match where you wanted both players to win and neither to lose. The young Chinese has proved himself a credit to his sport and country. All in all we can say that snooker was the clear winner there.
John must have only been told to get beat on the handicap tonight
What a hero John Bhoy is.
Its a wide open tournament this year. Different player has won all the ranking tournaments, which has never happened before going into a World Championship.
Higgins has been poor all season and will need to improve significantly if he’s to get in the mix. He hasn’t made it beyond the quarter final of a ranking event and only made two quarter finals.
Difficult to call a winner but its probably between four players. Robertson, Williams, Trump & Selby.
Chinee threw it away going for the double.
Stephen Maguire leads Luca Brecel 4-0 at the mid session interval
David Gilbert leads Martin Gould 8-5 at mid session interval
Stephen Maguire leads Luca 6-3 at the end of their opening session

David Gilbert beats Martin Gould 10-8 to set up a probable last 16 tussle with Neil Robertson
Shaun Murphy and Jamie Jones level at 2-2 at mid session interval
Cao Yupeng leads Mark Allen 8-5 at mid session interval
Allen’s in a bit of trouble. CAO’s form has been good so far
He hasn’t got enough points yet though
FFS give over lads
He’s passing his Irish exam so far.
It’ll be tough defeat for Allen to take as I’d say if he could have hand picked an opponent the Chinese newcomer would have been his first choice.
Cao looks a scrawny lad. He needs to fill out.
