“Nothing left to lose” suggests an image of a person who has lost everything they once had. It is far darker than “nothing to lose” - which is almost positive as you pointed out.
“Nothing left to win” on the other hand is hardly different from “nothing to win” - just somebody who has nothing to gain from the current situation - indeed “nothing left to win” could be interpreted as somebody who has won it all. So they have nothing to lose and nothing left to win - i.e. they are in the perfect scenario. That’s completely different from the intended meaning.
Apologies I misquoted there. I actually checked the lyric to see if it was blond or blonde and in concentrating on that I got the order mixed up. I was expecting “blonde” I have to say and was surprised to see “blond” - I’d guess it is intentional.
I quite like the Joni Mitchell original, but would second the inclusion of the Counting Crows version, just for their amending of the crucial line:
from “Late last night, I heard the screen door slam/ And a big yellow taxi took away my old man”
to “Late last night I heard the screen door slam/ And a big yellow taxi took my girl away”.
Awful.
If we’re talking about awful covers, how about Kurt Cobain frequently getting the words of “Man who sold the world” wrong? And indeed making no sense of the Leadbelly song “Where did you sleep last night?”
Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell, a song in which Joni complains they ‘Paved paradise to put up a parking lot’, a measure which actually would have alleviated traffic congestion on the outskirts of paradise, something which Joni singularly fails to point out, perhaps because it doesn’t quite fit in with her blinkered view of the world. Nevertheless, nice song
There is plenty of evidence to suggest construction of parking lots will actually increase traffic and therefore worsen traffic congestion. The construction of a parking lot outside paradise and the provision of “park and ride” facilities would probably lessen traffic congestion but a parking lot by itself will probably attract more cars to paradise and worsen traffic. Take off the blinkers.
Would you mind showing me examples of where I dismissed a song on that basis or are you unable to think for yourself and go along with the cliched view?
Meredith Brooks - I’m a bitch, no you’re a cunt
Eminem - anything; mainly about hating his mother & beating his wife - repressed queer.
that Proclaimers song 500 miles sucks too.

[/quote]First one is alright,Eminem was good ten years ago but no longer.I don’t think i have to comment on the last one…
There was a song on 2FM earlier this morning that was so fucking awful I had to Shazam it. Turns out it was “Barking” by some cunt called “Ramz”. Music on the radio is mostly muck these days but this shit took the biscuit. What is it with these cunts that can’t record a song anymore without having a computer generated version of their own voice on it.
