Brilliant stuffâŚwritten about an interview with a Danish journalist that turned into a massive session.
This thread is turning into a right try hard wankfest
Martha and Desperadoes waiting for a train are what you wait for at a Freddie White gig
Itâs more boring than the US politics thread.
Well, Frank settled down in the Valley
And he hung his wild years on a nail that he drove through his wifeâs forehead
He sold used office furniture out there on San Fernando Road
And assumed a thirty thousand dollar loan at fifteen and a quarter percent
And put a down payment on a little two bedroom place
His wife was a spent piece of used jet trash
Made good bloody Marys, kept her mouth shut most of the time
Had a little Chihuahua named Carlos
That had some kind of skin disease and was totally blind
They had a thoroughly modern kitchen, self-cleaning oven, the whole bit
Frank drove a little sedan, yhey were so happy
One night Frank was on his way home from work, stopped at the liquor store
Picked up a couple of Mickeyâs Big Mouths
Drank 'em in the car on his way to the Shell station
Got a gallon of gas in a can
Drove home, doused everything in the house, torched it
Parked across the street laughing, watching it burn
All Halloween-orange and chimney-red
Then Frank put on a top forty station
Got on the Hollywood Freeway, headed north
Never could stand that dog
Iâve been listening to Mule Variations all week which prompted me to start back into Swordfishtrombones tonight. My older brother and myself havenât had the most perfect of relationships, but Iâll always say he has the most impeccable taste in music of anyone Iâve ever met. That album was released in 1983 when I was 11 and himself had it. It was one of the soundtracks of my teen years. I lose it for long periods and then like and old friend it just appears. And I love it.
Thereâs humanity, understanding, pathos, anger, pity, every emotion you can imagine in all his writing and the element thatâs missing in so much art, humour. Heâs hilarious while singing for those society left behind.
Heâs John Prine in an alternative universe.
An absolute genius of a man.
Every time I hear this, I have to take some time to take it in. Quite unlike anything youâve ever heard.
Apart from Shane.
Which is probably why Tom loves Shaneâs writing so much.
Some songwriter
The
Only started properly to listen to him since coming on here
Heâs different level. You can stop bothering with anything else once you discover Tom Waits, just doesnât get any better
One of my top twenty.
I had a beer and now I hear you calling out for me ⌠Unreal
I turn around to look at you, youâre nowhere to be found
I search the place for your lost face, guess Iâll have another round
And I think that I just fell in love with you
