Anyway, Pat Nevin knows the score…

Pat Nevin, the former Chelsea midfielder, has defended Eden Hazard following the Belgian’s red card in Wednesday’s League Cup semi-final second leg after he appeared to kick out at a Swansea ballboy.

Hazard appeared to kick out at a Swansea City ballboy in the goalless draw in the second leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final at the Liberty Stadium, which saw Michael Laudrup’s side progress to the first major final in their history thanks to a 2-0 aggregate win.

The incident happened just over 10 minutes from time when Hazard lost patience as the ball boy, who is the son of Swansea director Martin Morgan, refused to hand over the ball after it had gone out of play for a goal-kick.

The ball boy fell to the ground as Hazard attempted to get the ball from him, with midfielder then trying to kick it from under him but appearing to instead make contact with the youngster.

Nevin leapt to the defence of Hazard on Thursday morning saying that he had over-reacted.

“I was very, very disappointed with how the ballboy acted,” Nevin said. "He must have been watching footballers with the way he rolled around and pretended to be injured.

"He’s only got one job and his job is to give the ball back. What does he do? He keeps the ball.

"I have to say I was absolutely amazed this morning to find out that he was 17. He’s not 12, not 13 and he should know what his actions in that situation should be in that situation. His behaviour was disgraceful.

Asked if he would have kicked the ballboy, Nevin said: "I would have kicked the ball from beneath the ballboy, yes 100 per cent. Sorry that’s not very right on, but I would have.
