You'd want your head examined or have daughters like Hopper McGrath, to manage a Ladies team thread

Eh are you serious

I was. But I was unaware. I wouldn’t be keeping up to date on the women’s footballers private lives to be fair to me

I don’t want to understate the physical toll on the birthing partner but Hannah probably had the less demanding position all things considered.

I wouldn’t either .but I’d a fair idea a woman wouldn’t be playing an all Ireland final 7 weeks after having a baby

I don’t like to use a broad brush, but my refereeing exploits in Lancashire ladies Gaelic football has led me to the conclusion that female sports teams are comprised largely of unhinged six year olds.

PS @Malarkey , I think my grammar, using “are comprised of” may be incorrect?

Plural verb is fine, Flatty. You are using the colloquial ‘of’, which is fine too but not really needed.

You could have said: ‘female sports teams comprise, largely, unhinged six year olds’. Clause-making commas around ‘largely’ indicate an adverb referring to immediately prior verb rather than to coming adjective.

But all fine. I am a finick on these fronts.

You’re right to be. Comprise is one which is often used incorrectly, and afaired, “comprised of” is a grammatical error.
Thanks for that.

So no commas would mean the team is entirely composed of females each of whom is largely unhinged?

Yes. You have nub of matter in one.

Same nub, by the way, is why I do not agree with splitting infinitives.

Well @Fagan_ODowd , I think I’ve just gone and thrown the cat among the pigeons. I got messaged yesterday to ask could I referee a final on Saturday from one of the teams playing, who have always been good to referee. I said I wouldn’t and went on to say that I just wouldn’t referee anymore because of what happened last time. I was asked for detail, and I think because I’d been awake half the night and it was early, I gave a rough outline without mentioning any names.
She then volunteered that she was chairperson of the county board and, well you know :grimacing::grimacing::slightly_frowning_face::slightly_frowning_face:
