Meath manager Eamonn Murray says he expects that Vikki Wall will make the move to the AFLW later this year. Though, he cannot understand why she would want to play the “dreadful” Aussie rules.
“Of course that’s going to happen,” Murray said when asked if Meath players like Wall and Emma Duggan will attract the attention of ALFW teams.
"That is going to happen, yeah. I’d say we’re losing Vikki now in September and I don’t know how many more we’ll lose.
"I don’t know why you’d want to play that sport because it’s dreadful stuff to watch. I can’t understand it. There’s no skill at all."

“She’s getting a good contract I’m sure over there,” said Murray, who insisted that ‘I don’t begrudge it to her’.
Asked if he had details of the club in question, Murray shook his head.
“No, I know nothing, no. She’ll definitely go alright.”
Murray isn’t a fan of the oval ball game.
“I think if any of yee check, the players coming back, the Sinead Goldricks or the Lauren Magees, or any of them, they don’t exactly set the world on fire when they come back over here. They’re not going to win the Championship for any team. They keep saying, ‘Oh we’re going out here and it’s professional and we’re training seven days a week’. How much training do you want like, you know? You certainly won’t improve your skills over there. I’m not bitter about it, far from it, it’s great to have a country like that that the girls can spend a few years over there and enjoy that year or two and come back.”

Fuck all. I posted about it previously, they have tiered categories. Irish girls prob get accommodation and other perks to supplement the shit wage.
Now maybe those wages are gone up too, but with 4 new teams i doubt by much. Any woman here on a county team would make it handy out there. They have a longer season too so might improve the wages

What crowds do they get
Starts early Jan and grand final is this week. So 3 to 4 months and a bit of a pre season too. Crowds are awful. Semi final last week at the MCG had 6,000 at it. Games might average 1,000 or so.

Not sure about funding. I’d say the AFL props it up and likely includes fox sports to help with tv coverage. Wouldnt have a notion on underage playing numbers or anything. Long time since i was out there but it never registered with me at all that any girls played it to any level at all. As you say, netball is the main one and many local afl clubs are affiliated as a combined afl and netball club.

yeah I doubt they would all be relying on it full time. Hard to fit another job into that sort of schedule where you’d have to take 6 months off, but no other way around it. Or being a student or something like that.
You wouldn’t be hitting the CBH until 4am every weekend that’s for sure.
