Your Biggest Sporting Disappointments of 2015

Matches I attended:

  1. Kilkenny v Wexford: The full realisation (after earlier worrying signs - see below) that we’d stalled and even gone considerably backwards after some good results and progressive displays in 2014.

  2. Wexford v Cork: A chance for redemption of sorts but we blew it by looking parts ragged and bereft of confidence and also by being not good or clever enough.

  3. Wexford v Waterford: A promotion decider after which it was clear our competitors were evolving and improving. On the other hand, it raised some nagging concerns about Wexford’s prospects for the year ahead. But maybe we’d be grand in the championship…

  4. Limerick v Wexford: An annihilation in Thurles. Again.

  5. Ireland v Scotland: I was very disappointed when we drew with the Jockos in June. @ClarkeyCat rashly decided he was finished with the national team until O’Neill left or was fired as we strolled out of the ground. Scottish supporters are skirt wearing wankers too, which didn’t help the mood. By the time September rolled around, I’d cleared my head and was almost certain the Jockos would fuck up in Georgia and posted that prediction on here.

Dublin v Laois - All Ireland Hurling Qualifiers

Virtually every Limerick senior hurling and football game with the exception of the Clare one.

Despite the fine achievement of the U21s, I remain pessimistic for 2016 as it’s a crying shame to be handing some fine players over to the clown in charge of our senior hurlers.

Limerick vs Tipp in the Gaelic Grounds.

An awful disappointment.

  1. Ireland v Argentina: With the injury toll and the Sean O’Brien suspension, I expected Argentina to win but it was still a crushing disappointment to see the dream of World Cup glory die.

  2. Wales v Ireland: Disappointing to see a lack of a Plan B and an ability to adapt to circumstances as the Grand Slam went by the .

  3. Toulon v Leinster: Ian Madigan’s intercept and the dashing of hopes of a record equalling 4th European Cup that went with it.

  4. Leinster v Wasps: The scale of the decline and the bad coaching appointment brought home by a 6-33 home defeat.

  5. Hurling season 2015: With the honourable exception of a terrific Galway v Tipperary semi final, a truly awful hurling championship. Would probably rank it the worst that I can recall in my lifetime.

And presumably also the worst you can recall in anyone else’s lifetime?

Yep that game against Scotland was brutal.

The conclusions of leagues last May were all very underwhelming, the Champions League Final wasn’t in the balance were very long, it was a poor denouement to the season.

When did TFK AFC finally collapse? Was that 2015?

Limerick seniors. All performances. The demolition by Tipp was an absolute disaster. Almost ashamed to say it but I was nearly relieved when Dublin reeled us in because we were going to get another filleting after that

Think it was 2014. A sad ending for a sporting institution.

Wexford GAA at all levels (Leinster minor league excepted)

Losing in the Segunda play off semi final to @The_Burner.

There was some craic in the stands when we got the opener against the north bits though. Massive deflation when they equalised after HTC. If nothing else that game cemented my hatred for all things scotch.

I’d say you’d eat a Scotch egg through a net.

Bizarre retort for someone of your standing, chief.

The sobriety thread may shine a light on this

Aif second half. All else pales into insignificance.

Last 15 minutes of Cork v Galway.

Despite being embarrassingly dominated everywhere but on the scoreboard, Cork were mounting a comeback of sorts, back to 4 points down, Galway were beginning to fill their togs (as only they do) Sure it was on and then Mark Ellis coughes up two ridiculous points.
