Some absolute charmers there…

Top top hurlers though.

I’ve said it on here a few times. The no.1 attribute required to be a KK forward is the ability to win 50/50 ball, precisely because the KK defenders don’t give a fuck where they hit it if they are under pressure. If they’ve time obviously they’ll pick a pass, but if not they’ll fuck it forward and let their forwards worry about it. Have KK had any small/light forward in the last ten years?

Richie Hogan is small but somehow ends up catching the ball a lot of the time against much bigger men

That’s a load of me arse, if you don’t mind me saying so. The notion that the Kilkenny backs and midfielders don’t play in good forwards ball more often than not is pure bilge.

Good forwards make bad balls good.

Bad balls make good forwards bad.

Mutley would surely slot in corner back, and I’d put Molloy wing back instead of Breen and put Wallace back full back. Some amount of corner forwards we’ve had over the years, both Doran and Hegarty wouldnt be wing forwards but both as good as anyone on their day. Doran could really have been a huge player only for his sudden departure. Jason Lawlor was another corner forward who was there abouts for a long time. John Harrington would be a notable player at midfield too and Willie Carley.

Molloy only ever played wing back in his debut v Meath in the 2006 and later that year v Offaly.

Showed how few options we had in the forwards at that time when we were reliant on him, and he playing club football in Kilkenny.

He never lived up the promise that he showed underage. He was very good with Good Counsel and Adamstown.

A bit like the All Stars, the forward positions are bit fluid… Couldn’t leave Doran or Hegarty out (having said that Scott definitely played in the half-forwards for a time). Thought about Mutley and Philip, but one was maybe inclined to foul and the other sometimes caught for pace? (but still great players). To be honest, John Harrington could have gone in for either Rafter or Daithi.

An alternative team?

We’ve seen teams from Cork, Limerick, Waterford, Tipp, KK, Clare, Wexford, Dublin, Galway, Tyrone, Mayo. Don’t think we’ve had one from Kerry, Offaly, Laois, Donegal, Meath. Lets be having you lads

I’m not sure how long he was actually playing in Kilkenny and on the county team at the same time, I dont think there was that much of an overlap. I do remember him scoring a brilliant goal against Dublin in Croke Park though in around 2000, and Tommy Howlin was fantastic midfield that day too.

@croppy_boy, as for Molloy wing back, he has to be accommodated somewhere, and I’d say he played more often wing back than corner back? In fairness to him, he was put full back only because of his versatility, but absolutely owned the position for a long time since then.

@padjo Malone in for Furlong, Morris to the wing and I’d say that would be about it.

I’ll have a decent crack off a Kerry team but it’ll be seriously tough,
