Your Greatest County Team 15

Gavin only there for the frees?
I’d agree with Treatystones that Collins should be in there, same with Conor Fitz, I don’t know an awful lot about Limerick football but I played on Diarmuid Sheehy a couple of times and wouldn’t have thought he was troubling the all star selectors, Steven Lavin was a lovely footballer underrated on the national stage,

Kerins
Cahalane, Steven O’Brien, Antony Lynch
Ciaran O’Sullivan, Graham Canty, Jimmy Kerrigan
Shea Fahy, Teddy McCarthy
Joe Kavanagh, Larry Tompkins, Dave Barry
Colm O’Neil(current), Colin Corkery, John O’Driscoll

Again a quick selection, surely a few I’ve left out.

Same could be said for Pat Malone.

Also, I’d be trying to sneak Eanna Ryan in there. Possibly ahead of Broderick as well. A gifted hurler, chopped down in his prime by a sledger from Turlough. Cunts.

I’ll have a shot at Dublin football. Not much point in doing the hurlers as half of them would be unknowns.

    6 Keith Barr

    9 Ciaran Whelan
    10 Paul Flynn
    11 Dermot Connolly
    12 David Hickey
    13 Dessie Farrell
    14 Bernard Brogan
    15 Alan Brogan

Because you have Hickey in the team it seems you’ve left out a lot of fellas I would have thought would be more deserving, Barney Rock, Kevin Moran maybe a few others.

They have a well deserved reputation all right, but now that you brought them up another two who deserve a mention are Frank Burke and Martin Naughton. Burke could easily go center forward and put Joe Cooney at wing forward which was probably his best position. Naughton was some player in full flight before his knee injury.

I forgot Barney to be honest. I’d put him in instead of Flynn or hickey. Truth be told I always had a soft spot for hickey because he was good craic and a bit different.

Kevin Moran was a great player but he only played for 2 years so I left him out.

Ger Henderson was a great and much underrated player. Fair play for going a small way to putting that right

He scraped into my timeline by playing in 87, Saw him play one or two county finals when he was around 40 and he was still deadly

I was picking mine earlier v similar. Deane one of first names on teamsheet for me. I wouldn’t have Horgan next or near it. For starters if you are picking the best Cork team you have seen then surely medals in the pocket has to be a factor in making marginal calls?

That’s probably the only real difference in teams. Id JC at 6 and RC wing back. Id Ger fitzgerald in forwards instead of hennessy but KH probably a better shout alright. I was shoe Horning Fellas in

To be honest I felt I had to have one from the last few years, I think Horgan is a super hurler though and it’s not his fault that he hadn’t a medal, he’d walk onto any all Ireland winning team in my opinion. That’s opinions for ya.
Try picking a football team, it’s actually a bit harder.

No DOC O’Connor? :astonished:

I’d go with that pretty much except I’d dump Dessie for Rock Snr cos I never liked Dessie and I’d definitely have Mick Holden in there as well. I’d probably sacrifice Rory for Mick, just cos I preferred Holdens style

No Plunkett Donaghy?

I think Barr was over rated
I would have Tommy Drumm in there

Nope, although I could put McKenna in at wing forward ahead of Cavlan and include Donaghy but Cavlan was a supremely talented player who didn’t really hit the heights he should have.

Yeah. I’d have no problem putting holden. Dessie was a brilliant footballer and carried us on his back in the mid nineties. His politics have made him unpopular but that shouldn’t take from his football reputation

Plunkett was Tyrone football as far as I was concerned in the mid 80s, cross between Derek Davis and Def Leppard.
