So, who's striking today? Which Side are You On

Lolz

In fairness BE have been royally shafted. The private operators have cherry picked a lot of the lucrative routes along with the fact that private operators can walk on top of workers. The govt have to recognise unions and rightfully so, the union executive will always strive to better conditions for their members, so it’s a double whammy for BE.
The only way out is to either give BE back the lucrative routes, subsidise BE or make it a level playing field by forcing private operators to recognise unions. This last point could have been enforced by making union recognition a must for valid tenders, but that didn’t happen. Is the govt a party to the race to the bottom ?

Yeah I pissed myself too when I heard them looking for a payrise.

I have little sympathy for them. I used to get a private bus to college. Bus Eireann came in, undercut the private bus which forced them out and then once they were gone Bus Eireann jacked up the prices. I think the NRA have guaranteed to maintain a certain level of service where private operators won’t serve. Private operators are not the only reason they are in the sh!t, a lot of it is of their own making, management and unions. Private bus drivers is a separate issue. NBRU and SIPTU would gladly see all private bus drivers out of a job.

NRA ?

That never happened.

Prove it.

Don’t think guns will solve this one.

Yes, to save their jobs as the company was fucked.

Yes they are.

How many fatalities on Dublin Bus/BE versus private operators?

on a pro rata basis?

Yeah bro

Say in the last 15 years. I see 5 killed on a BE bus in 2005 and 5 at Wellington Quay as a result of a DB driver. Both companies admitting liability.

And since the reason for foregoing their raises no longer applies, they should get their raise. Good reasoning Tim, you’re on the ball.

What? Do you know how a debate works? Or reasoning? It’s isn’t based on you making things up and me having to disprove them. Try learning some facts and basing your opinions on them. Reading might help. Good luck Mike.

If bus strike goes ahead will Heuston Station be open. I have a stag to get to and don’t fancy driving.

How about the last 2 weeks mate?

Huh?

We’re talking about Bus Eireann here kid.

DB is a different matter entirely. DB were offering an increase above the prior increase but DB drivers wanted that prior increase plus a new increase of a substantial amount. The WRC sorted it out and everyone is happy.

Your quote Michael Noonan and then question my debating skills. Good luck to you too.

You introduced Dublin bus Tim.

And?

The point is that DB based their pay claim on profits. BE doesn’t have them.
