Some historical grab being made here in advertising the GAA’s 1916 event

fuck me , the irony of the counter revolutionaries in the gga claiming a link to 1916 is disgusting

There’s a long history of it, take the Hill 16 propaganda for example.

I did the 1916 rebellion walking tour at the weekend. A very enjoyable couple of hours encompaassing a mere light stroll through Trinity, across O’Connell Bridge, up to the GPO and up the lane way onto Moore Street with stops for discussion/questions etc at each part.

That thing at the end of the football didn’t look great in the boozer with the sound down.
How long will these tours be running for do you know?
I’d like to bring the kids.
The first time I ever went to Dublin was on a school trip at national school. We went to Kilmainham in the morning and the zoo in the afternoon. I still remember really enjoying, if that’s the word, Kilmainham. We were putting our fingers in the holes in the yard wall that we were either told, or told ourselves, we’re made by the firing squad bullets. It gave me an enduring pride in the country and the rising, somewhat eroded by the carryon of the political and business elite more recently.

I don’t remember the zoo at all.

They’re on daily at the times mentioned on the website and they’ll continue on beyond this year - they’ve been running since 1996 so it’s not just a centenary thing. FotF and last year’s Cork marathon winner Cillian O’Leary is the newest member of the tour guide team. A great bunch of lads all round. Plenty of kids on the tour and as interactive as you want. I’d also recommend it if any cunt has the misfortune of being lumbered with organising a work outing/event. A bit of fresh air, some interesting history and then a few pints afterwards in town.

I’ve heard people say that they didnt think much of it on the TV, but I found it quite good having been in attendance. The music and speech was excellent. Few little quibbles you could have, but all in all, a very decent showing.

It was always going to suffer in comparison with RTE’s “Centenary”, which was held in a theatre purpose-built for such events, as opposed to on a GAA pitch in the daytime.

They would have had to go full Danny Boyle on it to measure up in comparison, and that wasn’t really an option.
