The IRB became cumann na ngaedhael. Fine Gael brought together a mixum gatherum of c na g, IRB, blueshirts, big farmers, middling farmers, national party (army) and lawyers.

Don’t you dare sully my beloved IRB.

Trace the leadership names forward…

Ah yeah… The ideals of the IRB died with the leaders of 16 really…what followed was a load of pen pushing, dynasty building corrupt politicians… i.e Fine Gael and later Fianna Fail.

Did it not 1st become the ira then politically splinter ff, fg (with final outlawing of the ra by dev)?

The IRB was much smaller than that in numbers.
After 1916 it was centred round Collins, Boland and their circle.

Sinn Fein split, the ‘old’ IRA split but the remains of the IRB seems to have blended into c na g as a group of individuals. There is no evidence of the IRB controlling c na g.

Only to cork!

In the presence of God, I, chocolatemice, do solemnly swear that I will do my utmost to establish the independence of Ireland, and that I will bear true allegiance to the Supreme Council of the Irish Republican Brotherhood and the Government of the Irish Republic and implicitly obey the constitution of the Irish Republican Brotherhood and all my superior officers and that I will preserve inviolable the secrets of the organisation

Agnostic.

They’d been at that since the days of O’Connell though and still hadn’t achieved home rule.

But they were nearly there, the British and soup takers said so!

It’s all Dev’s fault.

Well obviously, the fucker lived.

Incidentally, the difference between his grave and Collins’ grave/memorial in Glasnevin is quite interesting

Go on…

Dev’s is a modest little headstone/plot into which he and his family are placed. Collins has a larger memorial complete with concrete seat etc right beside the visitor centre
