2010 National Hurling League

Dublin will beat Waterford, who are missing shitloadds of players.

There’s a good reason for that Runt

I reckon the draw between Tipp and KK and a Dublin win are good bets.

Waterford team named for this weekend. Where is that young keeper from the U21’s? Surely worth a run out by now?

Clinton Hennessy
Jerome Meagher
Liam Lawlor
Noel Connors
Dec Pendergast
Michael Walsh
James Murray
Richie Foley
Jamie Nagle
Maurice Shanahan
Kevin Moran
Tommy Connors
Shane Walsh
Gary Hurney
Stephen Molumphy

Laois team named for the Kildare game. Still missing quite a number of players through injury and the Portlaoise run in the Club Championships. I’d expect them to put 6 points or so on Kildare though, even without Zane and Tommy.

Laois (NHL v Kildare) - P Carroll; J Delaney, D Maher, C Dunne; M Whelan, B Campion, M McEvoy; E Jackman, B Dunne; J Brophy, JJ McHugh, W Hyland; E Costelloe, J Rowney, J Purcell

Laois team to face Clare:

  1. Patrick Carroll Maighean Rátha
  2. John A Delaney Cloch Baile Cholla
  3. Darren Maher Cloch Baile Cholla
  4. Conor Dunne Na Clairsigh
  5. Matthew Whelan Buiríos Mór Osraí
  6. Brian Campion © Rath Domhnaigh Eiréil
  7. Michael McEvoy Cloch Baile Cholla
  8. Colin Delaney Camros
  9. Brian Dunne Na Clairsigh
    10.Eamon Jackman Baile na Coille
11.John Rowney Cluain na Sli Naomh Meanmain
    12.Willie Hyland Cloch Baile Cholla
    13.Eoin Costelloe Port Laoise
    14.John Brophy Na Clairsigh
    15.John Purcell Rath Domhnaigh Eiréil

Willie Hyland will give Clare plenty of it on Sunday

Uts a weaker forward line than it will be later in the year, but hopefully they’ll give a decent account. When Keenan and Tommy come back and young Foyle gets some hurling it’ll boost it a long way. Young would be a help too, but shur thats done at this stage.

Does that windbag Cahir Healy hurl for Laois???

What makes you say he’s a windbag Pukey?

He does indeed for what its worth. Doubt he’ll see action this weekend though.

What position does he play???

He’s played Cship at full back and midfield in the past I believe. Not sure where he’ll see action these days.

Laois team to face Antrim in Casement
Eoin Reilly, Conor Dunne, Darren Maher, Brian Stapleton, Matthew Whelan, Brian Campion, John A Delaney, James Walsh, Michael McEvoy, Owen Holohan, Cahir Healy, Willie Hyland, Eoin Costelloe, Tommy Fitzgerald, Neil Foyle.

Decent side out, Reilly gets another run in goals. Huge puck out in comparison to the other candidates so I think he might see more time if Mullaney doesnt come back.

Interesting to see John A move out of the corner, but Stapleton has been having a great year before injury and it relases Mike Mc to midfield where he parthers the returning Jimmy Walsh.

Healy takes up position at CHF but we’ll see if that lasts, midfield would be the place for him, but it might be no harm to have his hand there.

19 yo Neil Foyle gets a run in the corner after impressing as a sub against Kildare. Hes some talent but raw still as anyone who saw the Clare game will know. Laois will fancy themselves for this, its a must win game if we are to try split Clare and Wexford.

Cork team to play Killkenny on sunday

Donal Og Cusack - Cloyne
Shane O’Neill - Bishopstown
Eoin Cadogan - Douglas
Shane Murphy - Erin’s Own
John Gardiner - Na Piarsaigh
Ronan Curran - St Finbarr’s
Brian Murphy - Bride Rovers
Tom Kenny - Grenagh
Cathal Naughton - Newtownshandrum
Ben O’Connor - Newtownshandrum
Mark O’Sullivan - Dripsey
Niall McCarthy - Carrigtwohill
Kieran Murphy - Sarsfields (Captain)
Aisake O hAilpín - Na Piarsaigh
Patrick Horgan - Glen Rovers

You’d have to be reasonably happy with the team at this stage. Everyone thinks they are withholding Cussen deliberately, i’m not so sure though, i’d be thinking they are testing Aisake more than any manager games going on. Also massive game for Mark O’ Sullivan, show up well even for 40-45 minutes sunday and he’ll really give himself a chance come summer. He is improving all the time i believe. Cork have a very mobile midfield, and this may keep us in the game sunday, i expect us to be more mobile around there than KK. Overall though i think most people are hoping at worst for a 3-4 point loss. That would be progress.

Alot of talk/excitement and even some marketing going into sundays game. big crowd expected with kids free and clubs being organised by the CB to arrange this, subsidised buses and all. Any of the KK folk on here making the trip? I expect Locke will be bringing Ben & Jerry.

Can’t make it down but I’d like to. The banter in the stands could be fairly caustic after the meeting last year.

Ya, the jeering was out of line, and wasn’t forgotten. Great word by the way. I know some KK people were very unhappy about it, and one fella said to me at the time that he didn’t think Cody made the right call by sending them out to do that job either, that it would come back to haunt them, as Cork had the ability to turn things fairly fast. He also said that if it was 10 or more years ago there is no way it would have happened, but things have soured recently.

I think it just adds to it, hurling needs as many rivalry’s as possible.

I dunno, if you have your foot on a rivals throat, you dont take it off. I doubt Cork would have done much differently. If Cork come back and rain down vengeance on Kilkenny, then good for them. These things go in cycles anyway.

I don’t really have a problem with the hammering, the older folk do, i’m tending to agree with you on this.

The jeering on the other hand, that was never par for the course with KK, there was a rivalry there, but it was never nasty like with Kerry. Now it is heading that way. Cork being shite for 2 years means its out of the national spot light, but it may become more apparent this year. There was a bit of on-field goading as well from KK players, which considering they were playing such a weakened team is kinda disrespectful.

Yerra the jeering would be a bit out of order, but that was far more about the strike and less about Cork GAA folk.

Agreed, but i suppose thats not really the way its going to be spun down here now is it?

As i say, it adds a little bit to sunday, and thats not really a bad thing to say about a league game in March.

Yep nothing like a bit of timber being broke in the Páirc in March to get you going. I’d say Ogie begged to get back between the posts for this one. That last game left some splinters in him from reading the book. It was ground zero for the whole thing.

Reckon Laois are th eoutstanding GAA bet of the weekend at 6/4 to win in Casement.
