2011 BDO World Darts Championship

Exactly, sid. Darts is not for sale. You get a dartboard for your birthday and play with your pals after school. Then you play in the local youth club. Then you become old enough and play in your pub. Then you get invited onto your pub team and play in the super league. Then you impress in the super league and get called up to your county team. Then you play with your county in the inter-county darts championship. Then, if you’re good and lucky enough, you do well enough to receive the honour of a call up to the national team. Then you perform consistently on the circuit to get enough ranking points to qualify for the World Championships. Then you go to the Lakeside and stand on the stage where legends like Ted Hankey and Martin Adams have stood before you and you realise that all your darting dreams have come true. That’s the way darts is and it’s the way darts shall remain. It has been Dean Winstanley’s journey. And it has been immense.

I’ve always said it - BDO Darts is like the GAA. It’s no coincidence that keen the GAA people on this forum tend to also be keen BDO Darts fans.

It’s about family, friends, community.

The BDO - where the stars and grass roots are one.

Where everyone, from the pensioner playing in a working man’s club to the Lakeside World Champion, is treated with the same respect and dignity.

Where darts is more than a game.

Where darts is a way of life.

I personally think there’s a great case for the BDO to be used as a model for society as a whole. If that happened, there is no way this country at any rate would face the problems it does. Look at the problems in the banks. The same rapacious greed that the likes of Barry Hearn are notorious for.

When Olly Croft founded the BDO all those years ago, he not only pioneered the game as we know it. In my view he actually established a template for humanity. Honesty, integrity, hard work, loyalty, friendship, camaraderie. These are the values that can get this country out of the hole.

+1 Flano.

ps flano - i think if we stop responding, this thread, and the BDO, will just die. And that will be a good thing. So let’s step away, mate.

Great to see threads on the board exposing Bandage for the fraud that he is. A pity that Rocko hasn’t got the balls to come out against his long time compadre. I reckon Sid Waddell must’ve caught them in a compromising position.

sid, any word on whether Deano is lining out for Yorkshire this weekend? Carol Geddes hasn’t revealed the squad on the Yorkshire Darts website, which is very out of character.

Surprised at Carol alright Bandage but I’m certain Dean will be there. Surrey will be tough opponents but this is a game Yorkshire will expect to win. Crucial to get the result too to keep in touch with Lancashire and Essex at the top of the table. Those two are showing no sign of slipping up at the moment. There’s also the little matter of Cambridgeshire being hot on the heels of the White Rose county. Dean will not want to slip up and let Wolfie pass himout two weeks in a row! Personally I feel home advantage will help to swing it Yorkshire’s way, the lads know the Castleford oche well. Home win for me.

Sid, it was amazing to note that all the rubbish you wrote here during the Lakeside Amateur world championship also appeared on the Peoples Republic of Cork, someone stealing your material is it or more likely you like the sound of your own typewriter.

I’ve already stated here that I do not post on that forum and I only came across it last week by chance.

Whoever they are, the posters there were stealing mine and Bandage’s knowledgeable darts commentary, but I salute them for their ability to recognise quality darts analysis nonetheless. It was actually quite funny seeing stuff written here magically appear there ten minutes later

I use a laptop not a typewriter by the way. You PDC boys are stuck in a time warp.

Exact same stuff appearing on an fear rua too, truly amazing.

Good stuff, sid. I can’t help thinking that the league will ultimately become another War of the Roses battle. The 6-6 draw towards the end of last season was probably the best county championship match in years.

It’s rather amusing that james29, Dunph and Mac think we’re as sad as they are. The latter two believe I’m posting on a greyhound forum.

How goes the studying?

The Roses are scheduled to clash once again in the very last match of the season in May. It could well be a title decider.

I’d love to see Yorkshire win it again this year, it would be their first time to win it since they completed that epic comeback to overtake their arch -rivals and take the title for the third year in a row in May 2008.

TED HANKEY.

He’s in the ra.

So is this Martin Adams versus Ade (?) Lewis unification match taking place or not?
