2011 Summer Transfer Window

€ 42 million allegedly

Shane Long to West Brom looks a done deal. 7 million

Not sure what to make of that transfer. Hope he does well but a big money striker in a lowly EPL team isn’t always the easiest of roles.

Sky reporting Oxlade-Chamberlain having medical with Arsenal. This lad any good?

Obertan looks to be on his way to Newcastle

Obertan looks like an alien

The market is getting like the NFL Draft with huge amounts of money invested in rookies who have no real experience playing at the highest level and prices based purely on potential and whatever little experiece they have at lower levels. It’s a dangerous game to play.

Harsh, looks more like a cross between Lewis Hamilton and a lightbulb!

No loss to Utd, never looked like he was going to challenge either Nani or Valencia for a place in the team and with Young’s arrival his chances would be even more limited.

Why are Newcastle buying Obertan? What has he shown in his two or whatever years at United to show that he is worth anything?

Bizarre.

+1 in general young lads that never made it at Utd have done fuck all elsewhere.
Chadwick, Greening etc, etc,

The only young fellas I can think that showed anything after leaving are Pique (which is obviously a completely different story) & maybe you could make an argument for Richardson (although I wouldn’t)

Think its a good as Shane Long could have expected. In the EPL, decent manager who’ll give him a chance and he’s playing alongside another very decent striker. I would like to think its a good fit. Despite what we may like to think, he is barely a mid table player on all known form, not to mind anything else unless he goes and bangs 15-20 goals this year.

Phil Neville has done well for himself though he was hardly young when he left.

I think he’s the only modern era footballer who has continued to do well in England after leaving United. A few have been good overseas - like Piqué and Rossi and Forlan and Veron to an extent - but nearly anyone who has left and played on in England has been brutal.

Speaking of which Gibson is linked with Blackburn today.

Mark Hughes did well at Chelsea. Ben Foster at Bham. Saha at Everton. Howard at Everton. Bardsley doing well at Sunderland.

im sure byb well he means having won something…dont say the league cup ,cant recall what its called now, is a worthy of a mention…

Why do you think they are allowed to leave? Ferguson keeps the ones who can bring something to the squad like O Shea, Brown, Evans.
There are alot of ex-United players around, Shawcross at Stoke, Bardsley and Richardson at Sunderland. All decent enough players but not sufficiently good enough to play for United.

mikel at chelsea? if winning medals is the only barometer…

to be fair I cant think of one Fergie has sold to an English team that has really came back to bite him in the balls. Im sure there is one or two though - Paul McShane maybe

MON selling Gary Cahill and buying the likes of Collins, Cuellar, Dunne, Davies, Knight afterwards at centre half. Not good.

That’s the key point I think. Apart from Pique and Rossi, none of the players Ferguson sold would have constituted being good enough for United after the time they were sold.

I do rate Louis Saha as a player but he is just a complete crock.

Completely agree on Saha, super player when he’s fit but that’s never for very long.

United have used the loan system to good effect. Welbeck and Cleverly have developed enormously in their year playing regularly in the premiership. Evans and Richardson did well whilst on loan though the latter never really had the attitude to make it at a top four club.

Hughes is pre the era I’m talking about. Only Saha of the others has made any sort of impact buy even he hasn’t done very much.

I presume you forgot Forlan as opposed to not rating him. Ronaldo has been ok too!
