Hmmm.
I did forget Forlan. However he didn’t really work at United and I’m not sure he ever would have.
Ronaldo of course but Ferguson didn’t want to sell him.

Wesley Sneijder claiming unoffical talks have taken place with Man Utd and that he would be open to a move there.
As was remarked on here before, I don’t think he is the type of player Man Utd need unless they intend playing him much deeper than his current role.
i have to disagree farmer. a creative central midfielder is exactly what we need to compete with barca. sneijder would be the final piece of the jigsaw for me.
He played more forward for Inter though FWP. Played off the front man. Man Utd have a plethora of such players - Nani, Young, Valencia, even Rooney. In terms of central midfielders they are still quite limited there.
I concur.
McLean to Sunderland is confirmed. Good luck to the lad.
fair enough,
i would’nt watch enough football to know. i always thought he was a creative midfield player.
Sneijder is a very flakey player, when he’s on his game he can be the difference between winning matches but he doesn’t do it often enough. He’s not the type of player United need either IMO, Sneijder is a creative player, he is a great passer and has good vision - but I don’t necessarily think they need that type of player.
With the way United play they could do with a player who is at the base of the attacks. Sneijder can’t tackle and offers nothing in protection, he also loves his hollywood passes, which don’t really have a great success rate. United need a player who can dictate tempo, who will collect and receive the ball in the centre of the park and provide the link from defence to attack, Sneijder is a player who becomes active in the final third and I believe United have enough of those. Ferguson should be targetting two solid holding midfielders, one with a emphasis on winning back the ball (Lassana Diarra) and another who can provide the link from defence to attack (Gago). They could probably get those two from Madrid for much less than Sneijder would cost.
Ryan Shawcross has done very well for himself and is certainly the one that got away as far as Ferguson should be concerned…
I thought Greening did alright for a while at Middlesbrough and West Brom. Depends on how high you want to set the bar here (selling him certainly didn’t come back to haunt Ferguson) but he didn’t disappear without trace like many of the others did, and there were times when he was quite a good mid-table sort of a player.
Dont agree with Sneijder being flaky though he is very injury prone. I do agree that he is not the player that Utd need right now, Rooney is capable of playing in the same role with Hernandez playing up front alone. I wouldn’t touch Diarra though, he has been trouble wherever he has gone and seems to have serious attitude problems. De Jong is superb in this role but sadly he plays for the wrong team.
Lassana Diarra, whatever of his attitude, is class…
Correct
Where is Muntari now?
Why has he moved around so much? Why are Real Madrid willing to let him go? Its fine being class but its not enough to succeed at the very top.
Back at Inter
Hmmm thought his contract was up there, I know he wasn’t outstanding for Sunderland but I think he could do a job for EPL clubs outside the top 2-3.
Would agree with Totti that Sneijder is flaky, was very erratic at Real Madrid and flopped and the same last year for Inter where he was distinctly average at times, no real coincidence that his one real outstanding season came while Mourinho was his manager at Inter and got him playing at the top of his game. Have only seen bits and pieces of him but someone like Nuri Sahin would have been the right kind of player for United but he has gone to Real Madrid, it will be interesting to see how he fits in the Madrid side
Bullshit that Sneijder flopped at Madrid and has only had one outstanding season. He was excellent in '07-'08 and was an integral part of them winning the league that year. Was poor enough the following season, I think he had some injuries though I could be mistaken on that.
Indeed he was a huge success, hence why they struggled to recoup half of what they paid for him 2 seasons later.
Sneijder’s Serie A form was very patchy, even under Mourinho, he seemed to save his big performances for Europe and was quite ordinary in Serie A. It’s funny that Gasperini sees him as dispensable as he doesn’t fit into his system and United are going to sign him, presumably, to play the same role Inter Milan don’t think he’s able to.
Are you trying to tell me he wasn’t excellent in his first season there? He was deemed surplus to requirements when they splashed the cash to get Kaka and everyone knew that.
He had a decent enough first season, I wouldn’t say excellent, the likes of Guti was playmaker in chief in that sideand along with Raul were the form players for Madrid that season IIRC. He was heavily crirticised in his second season there for his poor performances and was regularly put to shame by Arjen Robben who carried Madrid on his back for the second half of that season under Juande Ramos. I stand by my opinion that he played his best football under Mourinho and returned to his more flacker self last season at Inter. There is no doubting his technical ability but I don’t think he is as good as some people make out
