2012 Olympics

He was on Off The Ball the other night as well, came across well

I see Ciaran O’Lionaird is coming along nicely in his preparations for this Summers Olympics with a win at the Boston Grand Prix. He beat o Farrah into 4th place, albeit Farrah’s fall early in the race does make the win sound less impressive. He’s a decent prospect though all in all.

We’re just one match away now. It’s gong to be some occasion at Belfield tomorrow. Ole Ole Ole.

100 days to go. The tension is palpable.

Introducing Darya Klishina of Russia, TFK fomally congratulates her on her qualification for London 2012

Congratulations to Kilkenny’s Joanne Cuddihy on qualifying for the 400 metres event of the London Olympics

The South East of Ireland is well represented in the Olympics this year for a change

Nolan
Murphy
Cuddihy

O’Neill

I see Stuart Pearce is planning a scouting trip to LA to assess Beckham’s form. Openly taking the piss.

Too fucking right it is. Becks will lead that side and rightly so, he got them the Olympics after all. Dues need to be paid.

Niall Griffin was on the eventing team at the last two summer Olympics Mac.

He carried the flag at one I believe. And now he occupies himself giving lessons in his Daddys place.

Indeed. It’s a given he’ll play and probably captain Team GB! Pearce making out he needs to see him play in the flesh before naming the squad to justify a junket to LA amuses me though.

Actually with the exception of 2000 in Sydney the Sunny South East has been represented in 1996 (Susan Smith, Waterford), 1992 and 1988 (Jimmy McDonald, New Ross - John Treacy Waterford) and 1984 (John Treacy, Waterford - medallist).

Not sure about 1980 as I was slight too young at the tender age of 20 months to pay full attention.

I’m sure there was some dirty little handshake somewhere that guaranteed him that role, and to be honest, I have a soft spot for him so I say fair fucks to the lad. For someone who seemed so dim when he first set out, he’s turned into some operator. The Pearce junket is amusing alright, safe to say he’s not traveling solo either. I’d say there’s some fucking money to be made out of “Team GB”.

Waterfords Jamie Costin / Costyn was at the 2000 Olympics. Finished 38th in the 50km stroll according to Wiki. He also competed in Beijing in 2008.

This year has to be the first time there’s been 2 Wexford competitors though.

Actually just revised this myself as well. WE had Billy Walsh at Seoul in 1988 with Jimmy McDonald as well. Been a long time waiting to repeat that though.

Cuddihy used to holiday on the Irish Riveria in Duncannon when she was younger. Clearly this had a positive influence on her sporting career.

Katie Taylor is through

Nice one.

Go wan’ Wickla!
