Explain that one a bit please. If he had been taking EPO to get him to the level he was at, not taking it would surely have cost him more. He narrowly lost to an athlete he had only just beaten when setting the world record for the mile. At worst, he performed marginally worse than expected, possibly he performed as expected and the surprise was in how well Ngeny performed. I don’t see how the result would lead to concluding he had taken less drugs that year. If there had been a dramatic fall off I could see the reasoning.
Explain why I remember it? Because it (the comments by the media passed about it at the time) happened.
I was just referring to that. It’s not like I’m an expert on EPO or how it affects performance or anything like that.
Could somebody please summarise what happened with Cuddihy and Mills?
Cuddihy wasn’t fast enough to make the relay squad and Mills was, but Cuddihy lodged an appeal to Irish Olympic Council/Committee saying she should be included in the relay squad even though Mills is running the faster times. Anyways the Irish Olympic Council/Committee decide they will include Cuddihy in the squad based on the fact that she was at some training camps and Mills gets the boot. Makes no sense to me why you would include a slower runner in the squad and not the faster one? Oh yeah Cuddihy’s sister is on the relay team, now I dont know how much influence that had but it sure smells hinky to me.
Cuddihy was picked on the basis of the selection criteria one of which was commitment to the relay squad throughout the year.
Mills appealed
Appeals committee decided that original committee had put too much weight on the commitment to the squad and the Mills should go cos she’s faster.
Cuddihy appealed
OCI reinstated Cuddihy on th e basis that the original committee did its job properly
Mills may appeal; don’t know if she will
I’d imagine there’s more to it than that.
Mills has said she won’t appeal
Fair play to Mills. What a fucking shambles it is though. Only Ireland would send a slower runner instead of the faster runner.
This sort of stuff goes on in every country though. I was reading about the GB taekwondo team where a guy who is the world no.1 wasn’t selected and a guy who was ranked 59th was sent instead. As ridiculous as it sounds, it actually made a bit of sense when you read up on it. There tends to be more to these selections than the average joe soap in the public thinks.
There’s a diplomatic incident at the football in Hampden Park at the moment. Not sure if it’s a women’s or men’s fixture but North Korea are scheduled to play someone now but officials inadvertently stuck the South Korean flag on the big screen and North Korea are refusing to play.
It’s the Womens fixture…Massively embarrassing for the Brits, could spell the end of somebody’s kowea
Must have been seoul-destroying for the chap.
Ok, I was wondering if you could explain the commentator’s reasoning as EPO’s effects are reportedly so dramatic that if you stopped taking it you would be much worse than your EPO enhanced level.
Bad Korea move for Coe if he’s looking to add this to his CV
Good one larry

Top class punning from larrybluff.
A full 3 hours after it was used earlier in the thread.
Vote larrybluff indeed.
The whole team played with a Pusan their face as a result of the incident.

Nope, can’t explain the reasoning, just remember the comments. In fairness it was the start of the college year so I was under the influence of performance altering alcohol myself.
