2012 Olympics

How did this happen? I believe the girl she is replacing is actually quicker than her. Fucking sham of an organisation.

I am looking forward to the Tennis, Katie bashing her way to gold, the diving is always good as well. I wonder if they will relax the all whites rule for the tennis. Do we have any medal hopes in the swimming?

I believe she is, I saw Cuddihy run at the Nationals and it looked as if she was going backward.

Doesn’t Cuddihy have a sister on the relay team as well, I wonder if there was a bit of pressure put on there, Anyway this is only for the replacement places on the relay team so hopefully she wont get a change to run.

Cuddihys sister is the star turn of the side, as totti would no doubt agree this is nothing more than anti Ulster bias.

Something definitely hinky about this decision. I agree there is strong wiff of anti ulster bias about this.

Just to get you all in the mood, pity we don’t have anyone on the track with a prayer of pushing in the final, much less getting there.

With the Treacy and O’Sullivan silvers we have two of the greatest finishes in Olympic distance running.

I’m still seething with those Chinese bitches for the way they screwed Sonia.

Cunts! And the fact that most of them were nowhere to be seen once the drug testing improved at the Olympics in Atlanta only made it worse.

Szabo is no better either of course.

How well did Sonia fare once the drug testing improved in Atlanta? There’s this mad notion that everybody that was good in the 90s must be assumed to have been on drugs, except Sonia and the other Irish.

 Splendid, I meant to post yesterday that your Athletics knowledge had been missing on here. I trust you’ll be around for the Games gio?

:o

She went on to take silver at Sydney. A car that was taking ‘supplies’ to Szabo in France was stopped and found to contain performance enhancing drugs in 2003.

Who else was there allegations about during the 1990s without unfounded evidence and what other Irish are you referring to?

Katie Taylor will carry the Irish flag at the opening ceremony

At least they got that right.

Sydney Olympics were filthy, EPO test wasn’t ready.

There’s allegations about almost anyone who competed well in the 90s. Hicham El Guerrouj gets accused, based on the fact the he was good and Moroccan. Ireland probably has as bad a cheat to world class athlete ration as Morocco. We have less of both but the ratio could be similar.

I’m not actually trying to accuse Sonia or the other successful Irish athletes at the time (Catherina McKiernan, Mark Carroll), but people are inconsistent in their accusations. e.g. Wang Junxia must have been on drugs to have been that much better than the rest. If the Chinese hadn’t been there, then Sonia would have been the dominant one and people in the country of whoever would have been second would have been saying Sonia must have been cheating to beat their girl.

It’s also possible that Sonia wasn’t good enough.

Sonia was consistently better at the Grand Prix meets where she encountered the other athletes, bar the Chinese who opted to stay away.

The EPO test was specifically develeoped for the Sydney Olympics actually. I do remember a few articles written at the time of Sydney claiming that the development of the EPO test at the time was why El Guerrouj didn’t win and there were a few sub par performances from middle distance runners on that occasion.

I don’t think, from what I remember, there being many questions about some of the athletes other than El Guerrouj, Szabo only emerged later really.

Is there a belief that El Guerrouj was juiced in 2004, croppy? The Athens 1500m and 5k finals were incredible.

No I remember a question mark over him in 2000 but not in 2004 probably down to the fact that he lost when he was such a strong favourite. I can’t remember who the commentator was but they put his loss in Sydney down to fear of the EPO test.
