2013 Senior Hurling Championship

Poor game of hurling, most of the issues for Clare in the first half seemed to come about due to the fact that our half backline were not in the game whatsoever and we had no platform to get ball into the forwards, credit where credit is due once they got their act together early in the second half we took over and won with a bit in hand.

Disappointing to see Waterford time after time coming out of ‘rucks’ with the ball, we still have a decent bit to go in the physical stakes and we looked quite nervy at times. Peter Duggan made a difference but is still very raw and made some very novicey decisions.

Thought Cian Dillon did well considering how little hurling he has played this year while the hanf backline and Galvin were excellent second half while Honan was a threat when ball was played into him. Conlon and Kelly both did some great things but took wrong options at times.

But a win is a win and I think we will come on for it, with the monkey off the players back. While Waterford were game once we stopped them winning direct ball they soon ran out of ideas, lost count the amount of times O’Sullivan got on the ball second half yet got bottled up due to a lack of options. Are you happy with Managements insistence of short passing as opposed to early delivery into the forwards? I understand the reasons they play that way but there has to be a plan B when its not working surely?

Not really, while I would like a bit more variation to our play like we had second half but unless you have a platform you can’t do either. I don’t think the short passing was a huge issue in the first half aside from the goal. The fact that our half backline were being beaten to the ball and when they did get it they were well bottled up and unable to clear their lines as opposed to refusing to drive it long on the otherhand Waterford’s half backline were well on top and dominating our puckouts and winning any loose ball on the floor and able to clear their lines with ease.

The word platform has been used a few times on this thead today which is disappointing.

I turned over to the hurling today, heard Michael Duignan’s voice, and said no, not today, so I went out to the garden.

We will ate Galway alive

James McGrath really is a shit ref as well. How McAllister was taken off the list and this joker was kept is beyond me

myboyblue I’m curious. Was there a minute silence before the Carlow Laois game?
PM me if you don’t know what I’m on about.

PM sent

McAllister had a shocker when he did Kilkenny v Tipp last August, he let absolutely everything go. Padraic Maher could have been sent off on about three different occasions. He was dumped from the referees panel after that.

Brian Gavin, the best ref around, is doing Limerick v Tipp next Sunday.

Alan Kelly - another mediocre ref - is in charge for Offaly v Kilkenny.

That’s an intriguing post…

Alan Kelly, Galway. I thought he was very, very poor that night. Gave an amount of soft frees to Dublin when any hint of a tackle was made.

Before I get accused of being biased I was up in Casement Park last year when we played Antrim in the league and he completely rode the home side that day too - gave Limerick a couple of very dubious 21 yard frees which Dowling buried and killed the game early on.

He was a complete cunt, will never forget his crazy one added minute and bottling a decision to give Lmk a free and a levelling score.

Waterford supporters will have been disappointed ESP with the chances at the start of the 2nd half which could have put them 6-7 up. Also, the loss of ohalloran was tough, he’s a huge prospect and losing him was definitely a factor. Waterford will soon have to replace the great brick Walsh ( Moran will do a fine job there ) and prendergast but the future looks fine. The national media and of course traditionalists will write off Waterford but ignore the knee jerk shite. Waterford are here to stay. Another day and it could have been a different result . If they can get Walsh , Daniels , ohalloran and fives back they will have a very fine side and I hope they make progress through the qualifiers back to the serious end, and they will if those players return fully fit

And molymphy

They also have O’Keefe who looked an excellent keeper in the making last year. Surprised he was dropped for today, although O’Regan was solid enough today, albeit he had little to do

Wheres Shane Walsh? Huge loss.

Had a very poor league, was on the bench today. Think he was struggling for fitness due to a hamstring injury. On form he is a very effective full forward

Cork are waiting in the long grass but I think Clare will mow them down, opening the way for a classic Tipperary-Clare Munster Final clash.
