The state of that gimp
i don’t, hence my question
Kilkenny beat Galway easily enough - 1-24 to 15.
They had strong enough line out. Team named was Murphy, S Prendergast, M Walsh, C Fogarty, J Holden, Hogan, P Murphy, Taggy, P Phelan, Shefflin, C Fennelly, Larkin, JJ Farrell, M Kelly, LRyan.
Shefflin seemingly scored 0-13, 12 frees. Looking at twitter, C Fennelly seems to have scored a lot including the goal. Good to see Shefflin back. Surprised to see Larkin on it this early but the guy could do with getting properly fit. Playing Murphy in the half back line could be an option but we’re not exactly blessed with choice in the full back line. Disappointing not to see one of the newer lads get more scores.
Galway had a lad called Darragh Burke sent off for a bad pull on Larkin near the end. Niall Healy frees seem to have been their main source of scores.
I was in attendance as I favour Baltic weather and was eager to contribute to the players injury fund.
The conditions in the first half were dreadful- pelting hail and a viciously cold wind and Galway should have built up a bigger lead.
Obviously all the reports are centred on Henry’s early season run out and good display - but regarding other players- I thought Conor Fogarty was very solid and is improving all the time (Jackie will have to hustle hard), Shane Prendergast was good too and Michael Walsh seemed very comfortable at full back (yesterday both full back lines were good) and had no problem shouting at whoever need be to organise the backs.
Of the less familiar forwards playing Jonjo Farrell scored two points and looks very promising, Mark Kelly was not as prominent as in last weeks game and neither was Liam Ryan - he will have to hardy up, he was knocked off the ball twice. Speaking of hardiness - Colin Fennelly had definitely sturdied up and does not look like the string of misery he was last year and he was lively yesterday - he scored a great point from out the wing after a lovely over the shoulder, diagonal pass from Shefflin.
P.s Shane Prendergast was the captain yesterday as I don’t think Clara have nominated a captain for the year yet- you would think it would have to be Lester but none of them are definite starters
P.P.S Gearoid McInerney is a giant- how old is he?

Cheers MA. Any evidence of KK having changed their style of hurling?
Good Day to you, I hope you are feeling better,
I must point out that I am merely a female so obviously my thoughts on matters such as styles of play are not wholly trustworthy but I can proffer information from two sources-
Rumours around town and eyewitness viewing of both Walsh cup matches (you can be the judge of which is more reliable)
According to lads around town they are training up a storm in a different venue (winter training used to be under the lights in Kilkenny College, a fine example of ecumenacism but has been moved to Thomastown or Bennettsbridge )and they are doing all sorts of new stuff!!! None of this is confirmed as the blood silence oath taken by all panel members even if they were only on the training panel for a few weeks is still rigorously in force…
I don’t reckon there will be revolutionary changes in their playing style but definitely I can see them adjusting how they send ball into the forwards
Yesterday the weather was such that a lot of the ball was hit at chest or torso high and there was a lot of fumbling, poor control, 3-7 man tussles for possession and subsequent control of the ball from breaks- KK won more from these.
Paul Murphy was actually the stand out catcher of aerial balls yesterday
Last week they played DIT with TJ Reid playing centre forward marking Liam Rushe- Liam Rushe caught every high ball - TJ Reid won any breaking ball and was better able to win lower and/or dirty possession so you would imagine they would be concentrating on targeted delivery .
To be honest I think a lot will depend on whether Michael Fennelly is available to play when he comes back from Australia and what position he plays in.
Good stuff @Midshipman Asha. Keep the reports coming. Dublin were hard to beat last year because Rushe swept up everything up high and the extra midfielders were winning all the dirty ball. A mix of the bizarre decision to change tactics by playing 15 on 15 v Cork, and Corks decision to basically foul Rushe out of the game with Cronin sacrificing himself by pushing around Rushe meant they wren’t as successful in the semis. Their critical weakness is their dependence on Dotsy and Ryan for scores. Both can be very good but are flaky imo

I am hearing that Daragh Burke fairly mugged off Eoin Larkin… what actually happened?
He landed an almighty whack on his elbow which looked bad but sounded worse. You could hear the crack right across the field.
I didn’t think it was deliberate. It’s not broken though only very sore. Reportedly
KK 4 Dub 2 (points)
KK 8 Dub 6 ( four ish frees from Paul Ryan and point from O Callaghan, I think )
Two points from Joe Brennan and one each from Thomas Breen, Mark Kelly, Padraig Walsh and someone else . Eoin Larkin scored two from frees too.
In time it took to write this score has gone to 12 points to 8 to Kilkenny so I am giving up and David Herity (miraculously- well maybe that’s too mean) made a save
Kilkenny very cynical. 24 to 1-17 Kilkenny lead
Hell yea, we’re BACK

All over, an experimental Tipperary team have dismantled clare 4-22 to 3-11.
O’Shea told them to stop going for goals halfway through the 2nd half.
