2015 All Ireland Final - De Duds vs The Yerras

Easy now.
You won’t find a more humble and genie athlete than Robbie.

The age old story plays out again. An overconfident Kerry rightly mugged off by their bogey county, the cute hoor Dubs.

Yerra.

A particularly boring piece of trivia here.

In 1991 Down led Meath 0-8 to 0-4 at half-time in the All-Ireland final and went on to win.
12 years later, in 2003, Tyrone led Armagh 0-8 to 0-4 at half-time and went on to win.
12 years later, in 2015, Dublin led Kerry 0-8 to 0-4 at half-time and went on to win.
0-12 to 0-9 was the final score in the latter two matches.
I predict Team X will lead Team Y 0-8 to 0-4 in the 2027 All-Ireland final and go on to win.

I think it was a case of Dublin getting alot of things right and the weather really affecting kerry game plan. They were clueless on the pitch and Dublin zonal defence was even better due to Kerry positioning and their depth.

I think they were simply hungrier too. Kerry players will have learned a very harsh lesson (and they can stop comparing themselves to the AB’s now) that the manager can only do so much. When it goes wrong you largely have to figure it out yourself. I think Kerry will become very very strong because of this defeat.Fitzmaurice will be better and they have some excellent players coming thru who will have been coached to a very high level.

Fitzmaurice’s ruthlessness kinda contradicted itself yesterday. Far too ruthless on Geaney when clearly the issues were out the field.not ruthless enough with Gooch who had his worst game in memory and bringing on his brother-in-law before Tommy Walsh. That will backfire in the short term.however they will get over it and carry on.

I go back to my h-t suggestions of a twin tower attack and maybe get Geaney or Gooch around the “d” playing off them. Or even put Walsh midfield where Moran wasn’t as affective and put moran to the wing and go “Big” with Stephan O’Brien coming off. Galvin was a bizarre call. Suck Dublin back and try and win a few frees. Put doubts in their minds.

Very noticeable that the entire Kerry backroom team were on the sideline after h-t. Again no eye in the sky it seemed, even if Cian O Neill was mic’d up. You want Murphy and sheehy up there.

Startled earwigs has reversed now.

Kerry were doing very well in the 10-15 minutes after Dublin’s first two points. Dublin’s superior football smarts turned it around and won it for them in the 15 minutes before half-time.

Fitzmaurice has been written up as a guru. He made bizarre substitutions yesterday. Gooch should have been taken off and Geaney and O’Donoghue left on.

“Footballer of the Year” David Moran failed to finish his third match from his last five. Fenton has a nailed on All-Star now. Young POTY also. Superb in the last two matches.

Fitzmaurice has relied on huge slices of luck to date and even with a lot of luck for them yesterday it was still not enough.

Wonder how many of the current side will now call it a day.

I’m still flabbergasted that Kerry lost despite setting down a huge psychological marker in the league match back on March 1st. My mind is blown.

I’m particularly pleased that Dublin have managed to reverse the losing sequence of All-Ireland finals to Kerry in years ending with 5.

Post match narrative is always interesting. Sounds like Dublin were incredible and Kerry hapless.

Kerry were denied a dead cert of a penalty, McMahon got off with a straight red offence, Young missed a sitter of a goal, and the ref made some very dubious calls and non-calls worth at least two points in the first half particularly.

If Young’s goal chance had gone in the talk would all be about Donaghy’s impact and how O’Carroll couldn’t handle him, instead of O’Carroll getting a MOTM nomination.

Not saying Dublin weren’t a better team in any of that. Sadly Dublin have gone from being a very likeable team after their first and even second wins to an extremely dislikeable team after the first Mayo game, and the Connolly and McMahon episodes.

Any interesting match analysis / columns in the daily papers? Tony McEntee writes about Kerry being shit in his Examiner column. Haven’t read anything else in today’s papers aside from a great piece in the Indo on the Dublin Wags.

Karma comes back to bite Kerry on the arse given the wrong decisions which went in their favour this year.

Dumb rating.

If that was the worst refereeing performance you’ve ever seen then it must also be the first match you’ve ever seen.

It wasn’t anything remotely close to being a clear cut penalty. It wasn’t a foul.

Dublin carved them open for 3 or 4 clear cut goal chances and were only led once in the entire game at 0-3 to 0-2. That was a very good chance for Young but it came from a throw up on the 21-yard line. Aside from Darran O’Sullivan blazing high and wide from 25 yards, Kerry never threatened Dublin with any incisive passing and/or quick movement.

Dublin on the other hand created numerous excellent goal opportunities and won very comfortably despite not taking any of them. Eamonn Fitzmaurice himself saying it would have been daylight robbery if Kerry managed to snatch a draw.

I saw a Dublin supporter buying a ticket from a tout on O’Connell Street at about 11am. I asked him how much he’d paid for it (well, I actually asked him how much the tout was selling them for rather than straight out asking him how much he’d paid). He told me he’d paid €200 for a Hogan ticket, and said to me “that’s the best you’ll do, they’re going for way more than that”, in a kind of Evening Herald headline manner.

I got a Hill ticket for face value outside the Gresham around 10 minutes later.

Still trying to dry myself now, mind.

I agree it would have been robbery if they’d snatched a draw. But yet the margin was relatively small and look at the incidents above which might easily have unfolded differently and seen a draw.

And it was a clear penalty. Watch the view from behind the goal.

Also I appreciate that some of your post match comments were purposely dumb and made for wind up value. You’re an awful rogue.

It wasn’t a clear penalty at all. There was a blatant one turned away in the semi final which Kerry were the benefactors of.

Black is white, up is down, Tyrone, Mayweather, the gays, etc. We get it.

Quit yer cribbing, you big baby. Completely classless, obviously you have grown up and watched a Kerry team have referees at their beck and call and consistently getting dodgy calls in their favour. Yesterday Coldrick refereed the game fairly and you could see Kerry getting more and more desperate and confrontational with Coldrick as the match progressed.

You’re an oddball. I watched it live, I watched it on TV - it’s not a penalty. To come away from that game where the superior team won comfortably and where the referee did a fine job with talk about refereeing decisions having a material impact on the result is just weird. Weirdo.
