It certainly happened and I would have thought that would have been quite well known around Ulster at least. Armagh were clearly not playing for their management in 2001.
Because of what James Horan said?
No, not because of what James Horan said. Do you not remember the last time I clamped you on Andy Murnin? Are you that big of a sponge for punishment?
I’ve heard plenty of loose talk but I’ve never heard anyone supposedly present at this meeting actually confirming it. There were clashes with certain players and management but nothing McAlinden and Canavan could have done when the players didn’t take their chances on the field.
Listened to McConville’s podcast with Anthony Moyles there lately where he talked about how there were regularly meetings held behind the Cross players backs about their supposed lack of commitment.
Canavan and McAlinden didn’t lose that semi against Kerry.
Of course they didn’t, but again you are completely missing the point, and you’ll never get it as you never played.
Players blame management when things go wrong. 1.01 Management. Accept it or don’t get involved. The higher you go the more they will blame you. Its that simple. The trick is to be entrusted with time from a supportive board and to build a self reliant team and give them ownership.
Occassionally, very rarely, this manifests itself woithout good management when you just happen to have a lot of players who are leaders. But invariably you will have 4-6 leaders max in any squad of 30.
Why so? You have little or no knowledge of Kildare football. You just said you were listening to James Horan on Newstalk and then a few posts later you are bigging up Kildare after he has. It would amaze me that you could listen to him talk about how much he thinks Kildare will play well but it would have no effect on your judgement ten minutes later.
Also strange the you talk about strength of character, lack of excuses etc etc but you take the word of Horan, the manager of the uber choking Mayo team as gospel but have no time for the thoughts of Jim McGuinness.
The ‘sponge for punishment’ line is perfect for your Nacho Nordie wrestler persona btw.
Why so?
Because I haven’t been impressed by Kerry this year, their full back line is a mess. I know enough about Kildare and have been quite complementary about them. I said from the outset this year that I expect them to make a quarter. They have been at a decent level in recent years and while they may not have turned over any big teams they have certainly put in a number of high level performances.
They were excellent against Monaghan last year and I know Il Bomber Destro rated them. Alan Smith and Moolick were two players he spoke very highly of last year. Niall Kelly was a player I didn’t know much about until last weekend and I thought he was class. Tyrone also robbed them in the league in 2014 and Kildare gave them a stern examination in 2013 in the qualifiers.
If @Rocko didn’t make such a cuntfuck of the search function I would go to the bother of bumping those posts now and showing everyone what an embittered fool you are. I also gave plenty of praise to Kildare on Saturday and said they have better players than Cork who Kerry had difficulty with.
I still expect Kerry to win but 6/1 is crazy odds on Kildare.
Like the Murnin incident, I suspect you will still behave with typical bad grace after you resentment has unfurled for all to see and fail to apologise, your little snipes will be put down. You’re like a choir boy trying to tame a lion.
Anyone present at the metting!!!
A private meeting 15 years ago and you haven’t heard many talk about it.
what a clamping
Eh, these things usually cone out in the open. Oisin McConville wrote a book, you’d imagine it would have been something noteworthy to include.
Or maybe he liked the lads and decided there was no need to bring it up.
So there is no confirmation it actually happened, just loose talk and hearsay?
talk to sid.
you haven’t a notion what i’m trying to say.
Nor you, I and I’m the sensible and intellectual one out of us so go figure.
So you listened to an expert (whose opinion you’re spouting here)bigging up Kildare and yet it had no bearing on your sudden support for Kildare?
Your ‘support’ of Kildare last week was nothing of the sort, it was a vehicle for you to attack Cork. If I could be arsed I’d go back and look at your posts and count how many mentioned Kildare.
As to your respect for Kildare, sure you’ve picked about ten teams this year (9 from Ulster surprisingly). Your big picks were Tyrone and Armagh. Your next two were derry and Down. So of your first four big picks, 4 limped out without a whimper. You bizarrely didnt pump up Donegal much, probably because they’re not Nordie’Ulster enough for you.
You’re like the fella who bets on ten horses in the grand National so he can shout his horse came in each way at the end.
Again I ask you, why take Horan’s opinion as gospel but rubbish McGuinness’?

@Juhniallio
Well now that is as certain as you’ll get in terms of support right there. I wouldn’t be surprised? Get your splintered arse off that fence cornerboy.
No, this is another embittered snipe at me on your half. The difference between me and you is that I have a great sporting mind and don’t need others to convince me, you must be trying to relate a special and unique mind like mine with an ordinary and limited one like yours. You’re comparing apples and oranges abs your need to try and take me down is turning into an obsession for you. The volume of posts are there to prove that I rate and have rated Kildare. I only tipped them a week ago to dispense of Cork when they were 4/1 and now you are saying I have jumped on a bandwagon subsequent to when I made my initial judgement?
You are too full of resentment and obsession to see the wood from the trees.
So no attempt to answer the question of why you value the opinion of Horan, the habitual choker over McGuinness, the habitual winner? There used to be a poster here called Bomber whose main form of argument was to re-ask a question over and over again and then claim some sort of internet victory. You seem to respect his opinion so I’ll try this method.
Will you answer the question, Nacho?
You are worse than Miguel Delaney.
