I don’t really see where the basis for POTY has been coming, Maher has been a much more constant force and much more impressive. Are we basing his worthiness on a MOTM performance against Cork in the replay and a performance in a turkey shoot against Kildare?
All Stars and POTY nominations usually hinge on who makes the final at least which is a bit stupid. Not really too many standout candidates for it this year. Brogan for me is the leading candidate.
On further research, Maher has been an ever present in the Championship for Kerry this year.

Moran has not had that great a year at all and the only two performances that really stood up were the replay against Cork and a performance in a turkey shoot against Kildare. Moran is the new flavour of the month with RTE and the media, a great player yes but he hasn’t had all that good of a Championship. Maher is criminally underrated beside him but I presume Moran’s name and reputation as more of a footballer sees the plaudits fall his way.
He was very quiet and really failed to impose himself on the game against Tyrone committing a series of tactical fouls on Donnelly and was extremely lucky to not have been black carded on the stroke of half time, on watching it back it’s actually McAliskey who he pulls down with his hand after Cavangh dispossessed him.
They also should have had Young and Enright black carded in that game so there is a real weakness in their team when teams run at them. Kerry’s defence is an accident waiting to happen and with the Dublin inside forward line showing good form I think it will come to pass on All Ireland final day.
