2015 All Ireland Football Championship - FOR THE LOVE OF GOD MAKE IT STOP

He should have got it ahead of Kingston at any rate

Have manners you ya brat.

Dermy McBride was completely overlooked as well, probably deserving of an All Star itself an at the very least a nomination.

Gary Sice is another player overlooked.

I see a majority of players from weaker counties have REJECTED the idea of a two-tier football championship.

For those who aren’t aware of it, the GPA proposal to revamp the inter-county season is as follows.

The All-Ireland championship to consist of 8 round robin groups of 4 teams.
Group winners qualify for the last 16, 2nd and 3rd placed teams play-off to get into the last 16. Knockout from there on.

Provincial championships to be separate from the main championship and be played in April/May.

National League to consist of divisional games only with no semi-finals or final.

All-Ireland final to be moved forward to the first Sunday in September.

Unsurprisingly, I’m against this proposal.

Ffs. Fuck off with this nonsense would ya.

Not that i agree with it, but why don’t you like it

i) It makes the National League even more meaningless than it already is. The “oh but the teams will have seedings to play for” spin is nonsense. The league has always had a knockout component. The finals and semi-finals used to be big occasions but the competition has been talked down continuously for the last two decades and this proposal is just a continuation of that.
ii) It makes a total mockery of the provincial championships and gives them quasi-O’Byrne Cup status. Obviously they’ve been “retained” in the proposal purely to increase the chance of it getting passed, but if passed, they would likely be abolished within a decade when it becomes obvious they’re not being taken seriously - and that’s the real plan - to neuter them and abolish them by the back door. The provincial finals, which are marquee occasions, are effectively abolished as we know them and the chance of a provincial title for players is gone.
iii) A load of dead rubber round robin games are introduced. The overall championship is not slimmed down, it’s expanded from 60 games to 71 games. The All-Ireland final will supposedly move to the first Sunday in September. Good luck with that.
iv) It takes no cognisance of the fact that there is also a hurling championship.
v) It will give even more of an advantage to stronger panels than is already there.
vi) It does nothing for the club player, drives a deeper wedge between county and club activity and and actually worsens the situation of the club player as it will close the window in April and May when club championship fixtures can take place.

The one good thing about the proposal is that it does away with the notion of a two-tier championship.

Don’t agree with some of your reasoning.

However to avoid dead rubbers wouldn’t it be good if the 4 league divisions were decided by champion as well. 1/4 finalists form div 1, all 2nd placed teams form div.2 and so on.

Then occassio ally a team who has a good run in championship has a reward and a chance to build on it. And they obviously earn a seeding then again for the following year.

Just to get this straight as I’m not 100% sure from your wording.

The teams who finish first in the round robin championship groups make up Division 1 of the following year’s NFL, 2nd placed teams make up D2, and so on?

An interesting proposal if I agreed with the championship format, but I don’t.

It would pretty much kill any incentive to get promotion in the actual NFL itself.

In the early 90s the NFL had a format for a year where there were four divisions of equal status with the top two in each going through to the quarter finals. It did give the benefit to weaker teams of more regular football against better teams but the downside was that there were a lot of dead rubber games as there was no relegation.

Correct on what i am saying or suggesting.

I feel if they went this way they have to then ditch the league of any real importance and then that assures that everyone can take it at the same level of seriousness and they will play with tactics and blood young players which ultimately will lead to a better championship. Championship is where you get your rewards, fermanagh get a reward for battling thru to 1/4’s by being sure of 7 very competitive games the following year. Its too slow a climb for most counties in the league to get the competition needed. This way in one year their whole outlook could change. The managers are always stuck in the now and can’t build teams with a view to down the road. Think it would take the pressure off there as well.

He has held O’Hare, Comer and McBrearty to a combined total of one point from play. McBride is arguably the best man marker in the game but I’m not surprised somebody like you would not know this as your ignorance about the game is staggering.

I agree with this.

The Championship doesn’t need an overhaul, just a little bit of tweaking to redress the imbalance in the current qualifier structure.

Hahaha.even nordies saying games are not the burnout issue.

The championship needs a complete overhaul. As do the rules. They need to start from scratch.
Provinvial champio ships are a waste of time. Time to move on.

How much fouling has he done you twaat

Virtually none.

Unload more of your ignorance on this thread.

That’s one guy Kevin. Eamonn McGee said the exact opposite to Malone at the start of the season. He said that they have to peak for May ever year and it’s very tough to maintain that through to September.
