2015 Club Championships - the lads are STILL at it

Its all ego you dope.

At the cost of young people. Egotistical old men.

I have an ego. Of course i do. But i acknowledge it and keep it in check.

Doesn’t mean they can’t go in there. Derry city still get shit crowds

Maybe tgere shoukd be a parish rule to u21?

What are you on about?

You do understand what a club means to the people of its parish? So, in essence you are saying that a rough few years should be a sign to fold up shop and give up?
Many good clubs go through rough periods, they go to the well and go again.

Are you encouraging a defeatist attitude? Some fly by night fucking trainer you are.

Maybe the GAA would be better off investing the money in promoting the game in Derry City rather than throwing €20m on splitting a club that is currently thriving.

Derry City has always had a raw urban bristle to it, kids on the street playing ball, it’s quite a dense, compact city which is not well catered for in turns of amenities, probably due to it’s physical composition, very much a concrete jungle. I would say of all the cities in Ireland Derry is very much the most unique.

Þit is an unusual area in that kids all go to local primary schools but then start to go to secondary schools further away many of them fee paying rugby schools. So GAA is by no means a default sport. Lots of soccer clubs in area too.

Crokes has made GAA cool and an aspirational sport in the area so you see kids wearing crokes tracksuit as fashion statement. It is a “cool” club. It is well organised.

Over time you will probably see kids gravitate to smaller clubs as they get a bit older and a chance to play for a first team of a club. All those new clubs success in attracting player will be down to crokes, Cuala etc making GAA a sport to aspire to in the area. The main issue for the super clubs in the area is trying to find pitches and matches. The growth of some new clubs would be great and is probably in its Genesis now and yes that is where GAA HQ money and resources should go in Dublin rather than towards a senior team or more and more better facilities for county teams.

The main thing which limits growth of super clubs is they need pitches. First choice in Cherrywood should be given to the newer smaller clubs but let’s see if that happens …

@TheUlteriorMotive would Bray Emmet’s benefit at all from that cherrywood development or what rules would come into play?

In the cases i am talking about they are denying young people games.

Parish oride is a load of shite when it gets to that. Its a game. New friendships can develoo, time heals, people move on and often you’ll get rid of the bad cunts anyway. Ya you might lise a few stubnorn good fellas as well but its not their game, its everybodies.

You are talking about something different, of which i was involved in myself, 2clubs (who were not even adjacent) coming together to have a Minor team for 3/4 years. Then the ego’s in my club left the other club (who needed probably another 2 years for a bunch to come through) floundering and no Minors for 2 years. It was all down to ego’s and uneducated selfish twaats.

From what i am hearing across other clubs its a similar story.

Who said anything about giving KC 20M. Jesus you’d try and twist anything. Its about growing other clubs around them and helping more kids and adolecents stay in the game. The solutions are quite simple.

Why don’t Derry get the funding from the Queen? Cos they can if they want. Others in the 6 counties have.

What I spoke about was amalgamation. I presume you meant folding up?

Anyway, of course old uneducated twats will have a say as to how clubs are run. Why wouldn’t they when no one else wants the responsibility. Parents will moan & moan, but ask the cunts to join a committee or train a team and see the answer you will get.

In short, you are talking shit for the sake of it.

Good points on KC etc making GAA cool. And that they will in fact help the new clubs.

No i’m not. I’m talking about a rural issue that is essentially the opposite of the urban one.

In decimated rural areas amaglamation may be the only options. Call it folding or whatever, pride needs to be swallowed

@Mac I expect all clubs in the area will make a play for pitches. emmets Should be close enough unless they are knocked back as in Wicklow and DLR favour DLR clubs.

It is essentially a new town being built from scratch. No idea on rules that will apply but it is a great opportunity for lots of sports clubs and not just GAA.

That’s what it would cost at a minimum what you’re putting forward, you haven’t talked about growing clubs around them you have talked about splitting Kilmacud.

Yes, others in the 6 counties have because they don’t get any funding from the Free State.

They can. I know of clubs in the 6 who have got double grants.

And if they built a huge municipal sports grounds with 8-10 pitches maybe 3 of each major sport, a gym & pool, tennis courts, hurling alleys, hand ball alleys etc would it not be money well spent?

Just a gaa club with 2 pitches though wouln’t cost anything near that, especially if council owned and the fact that planning is already zoned there for sports fields makes it extremely easy compared to what others go thru.

Which 6 clubs got double grants?

Link to this please.
