2015 Club Championships - the lads are STILL at it

Ask Frank

The difference between club and inter county is the number of players allowed on the matchday team list - 24 in club, 26 in inter-county.

The two players Crossmaglen introduced between the end of normal time and the start of extra time are not classed as substitutes. Once they appear on the original list of 24 they are simply named on the new team list as starters for extra time.

Crossmaglen did not breach any rule regarding substitutions today.

I’ve established that but in my view, it makes a mockery of the game. Even with a maximum panel of 24, you can still theoretically make 18 changes during the 80 minutes.

If you treat extra-time as a new game, you might as well go the whole hog and allow a whole new matchday panel to be named at the break and bring an entirely fresh team.

Also, I’m pretty sure that if a player is ordered off in normal-time due to two yellow cards, he can’t come back on for extra-time.

Given that yellow cards are no longer supposed to be carried forward to extra-time, surely that’s another inconsistency in the rules?

I’d agree to the extent that, since extra-time was reduced to 10 minutes each way, actual ball-in-play time in ET is little more than about 3-4 minutes a half.

Referees, also, tend to add no more than a minute’s additional time regardless of delays in ET. Substitutions are a major factor in this, along with slower restarts due to fatigue etc.

If they ever have the cop-on to introduce a stopped clock system it has to take substitutions into account.

"You said he was in the wrong place"

Never miss a chance to get the dig in

Is that a fucking cowboy hat on the Clonmel crest ?

No

I had them doubled with Klitschko mate.

I felt Fury was lacking 20-30% of S&C so went for Wlad.

Mugged off good n proper I was

I’d say this lad is “hilarious”

I think @the_man_himself asked about Oulart representation on the Wexford squad.

There’s now only 4. The goalkeeper Conor O’Leary has been called up for the first time and centre back Shaun Murphy has been recalled after being dropped last year - he’s been top class for Oulart this year. Wing back Eoin Moore and midfielder David Redmond will be back again. Moore was taken off in the first half against both Kilkenny and Cork in the championship this year but has bounced back - got a great late point yesterday but was lucky not to get a straight red card. Redmond had a massive game in midfield yesterday and is the only current Wexford senior hurler to play championship in Croke Park - our last appearance there was in 2008.

A load of others have played for Wexford in the past ranging from Rory Jacob and Garrett Sinnott who retired this season, to Keith Rossiter (2013) and the likes of Michael Jacob, Paul Roche, Des Mythen and Nicky Kirwan who all either retired, were discarded or hampered by injury before that.

Is he the lad who is originally from Tipp or was that another Sean/Shaun Murphy?

You’re thinking of Stephen Murphy who plays with St Martin’s. He was actually born in Wexford but moved to Tipperary when he was very young. He’s a secondary school teacher as far as I know and has been based back in Wexford for the past good while. He was on the Wexford panel in Dunne’s first year anyway but dropped away. Still hurling senior for St Martin’s.

Garrett Sinnott is a bit young to be retired from inter-county hurling, surely? Born May 1987 according to Wikipedia.

Yeah, he’s relatively young alright but has called it a day. Not the most mobile and has been slowed down by a succession of muscle injuries in recent years. Showed his worth in winning primary possession in the air yesterday though.

He was very quiet for most of the game but had a very prominent last 15 minutes

The fucking state of Stephen Doyle in the top photo on the very right! Apologies if you’re reading Stephen but put your left hand somewhere else next time.

Yeah, made some important blocks and tackles and got on the ball a bit late on. Aside from kicking in the second goal, he also caught the puck out from which the first was scored.

Think they under performed yesterday. If they click they have to be favs to beat anyone else. Physically built better than some IC teams. However i wonder are a few over muscular. Hard to judge with tv and time of the year.

They are as cynical as anyone though and its serious rubbish from brolly etc to suggest anything else

They actually don’t have too many giants. McKenna would be the only outfield player over 6 ft 1. They’ve always been a very physical and hard hitting team though.
