2015 O'Byrne Cup, Walsh Cup, and other lesser Provincial Competitions Thread

Limerick are going to win the All-Ireland this year.

so are 31 other counties

Camogie?

Zane Keenan is now 3 from 3 in the one on one penalties after scoring another against Dublin yesterday. Sadly that was as good as it got for Laois who looked way off the pace, which is surprising given how fresh they looked against Wexford 2 weeks ago. I would imagine Offaly in 2 weeks is Cheddars priority. Pity though, it was a good opportunity for a run out in Croker for a group of hurlers who I would suspect none have hurled there at all.

Linerick certainly have as good a chance as anyone else.

No matter what anyone says about tradition, KK won’t replace the players they have lost this year. No doubt they’ll find a few, but I suspect experience in central positions will be their un-doing.

Rankings now considering talent available, management expertise and general experience. Fuck all between top 5 IMO and a case could be made for any.

  1. Tipp
  2. Cork
  3. Limerick
  4. Killkenny
  5. Clare
  6. Waterford
  7. Dublin
  8. Galway

I’d disregard the above gents, he said Kerry wouldn’t replace the players they lost either and, well, we all know how that worked out for him.

There is no rational basis for rating Cork 2. Ridiculous. Kilkenny have only lost JJ, that’s all, the rest weren’t starting or having an impact and they have no shortage of experience in the dressing room. JJ is a big loss but he was no longer even the best full back in the country, I expect they’ll replace him and be at more or less the same level this year. The rest of the top may improve enough to beat them.

They have lost ridiculous experience and squad strength.
Who is better than JJ at full back?
Cork are more talented than Limerick, more balance and danger men in their team. They also comfortably beat limerick last time they played in championship. However I think Cork have preparation issues. But I would cite the dual issue as a major issue for Cork last year
Clare are arguably more talented than Cork but have that head case in charge. I believe he is hounding a couple of coaches to get involved to grow the coaching team further. Does he not trust who he has?
Tipp are very talented and have good management. They were 3 inches away from winning last year.
KK are obviously very good, but the likes of Tyrell are really hanging by a thread, Hogan has dipped a fair bit and JJ is a huge loss. They still have 4 or 5 of the best players around but I think they drop back into the pack with the loss of players.

As I said there are cases to be made for anyone. I think the most likely winner is Tipp though.

Limerick over trained in the lead up to the Cork game last year and were flat from 50 mins on, it’s not the reason they lost but it played a significant part. To say Cork are more talented is just bizarre and totally unfounded. I’d say there isn’t much between them if you look at it objectively but if it came down to a fight I know who I would back.

Shush will you, Limerick are fucked, Cork will romp Munster and the All Ireland, give em Liam now.

Agree the most likely winner is Tipp.

Hogan has already been replaced by kilkenny. I don’t think they’ll drop back that much but other teams will improve to threaten them, Tipp and Limerick should both manage 5% improvement at least.

Richie McCarthy is the best full back in ireland, and was last year as well. You may still claim not to be convinced but that doesn’t really matter as his record proves otherwise.

Clare seem to have drifted from what they were doing so well in 2013 and seem to be in disarray, I don’t think they will be contenders.

Cork went out with a whimper in the semi and you’ve said yourself they’ll start the year great and finish weakly. Clare, Tipp, and Limerick in Munster have better forwards than Cork. Lehane and Harnedy are Corks only really dangerous players. Although Cadogan might be yet. Horgan is massively overrated.

Limerick don’t have better forwards than Cork. If they did they would have won the AI last year.
Ritchie McCarthy is no more the leading full back than I am. Unbelievable blinkers.

List off better full backs who will be togging ahead of McCarthy?

that’s what happens when someone makes predictions or gives an opinion… they can get it wrong… you offer nothing here you fuckwit apart from the ‘watch your spelling’ ratings…
you are such a sad bastard you have to pretend to have kids now to try and fit in around here…

You’ve had this argument about McCarthy before. You managed to pick out examples of other players’ mistakes as evidence. You gave one example of a mistake of his when he wasn’t even on the pitch last year! Name one better full back in Ireland. Actually, name one better defender than McCarthy that cork have?

Limerick’s forwards will be better than Cork this year. We lacked cohesion last year and key players were just hitting form as the season wore on, both factors will be improved this year barring injuries. Younger players like dowling and Hannon are now fulfilling their potential. Corks forwards are not particularly threatening beyond lehane and harnedy. They haven’t anything like the spread of threat that Clare or Tipp do.

The axis of Love between @caoimhaoin & @glasagusban may be seriously under threat here.

I agree where it’s due and disagree where it’s due. It’s all on merit. Kev is on the ball more often than not. He’s blinded by red tinted glasses when it comes to cork hurling though.

We need an out and out goal scorer, Glas.

agree with all of that except for the clare bit its crazy to write them off for 2 reasons, 1. do you assume Lk as contenders will look after them that easily in May and 2. it doest really matter if they do or not as Clare in my mind have the most improvement in them should they reach August and Croke Park especially.

Its a dark day for the forum when @glasagusban is making more sense on hurling matters than @caoimhaoin
