Tyrone and Tipperary are just about passing each other, one on the rise, the other on the wane with a bit of a kick in them on occasion. This might be coming a bit too soon for Tipperary, but its a county on a high, a county who are starting to dominate Munster at differing levels in both codes and have taken over Cork’s mantle of being the top dual county in the province at this point. Tyrone should have too much for them yet, but if Tipp were to take this it would be some kick in the hole for Tyrone.
I think all that has been said about Tipp yet is talk, they have beaten nobody of note in the Championship in years. Tyrone are a good level ahead of them right now and really should be winning this. Tyrone are currently in a bit of a transitional stage. Only McMahon and Cavanagh started the 08 AI but there’s plenty of talent in the county and we’ve a defined game plan. The qualifiers are all about getting over the line until you reach the last 12/last 8 stage where you then have to be delivering big performances.
I expect Tyrone to be putting it right up to the big teams in August. I don’t think Tipp have a hope in hell of testing the big boys.
Saturday will tell a lot about both teams and where they stand. Much like last Sunday did with Galway and Armagh. Anything else is just talk.
Galway-Derry is really intriguing too. Both teams impressed me when losing to Mayo and Donegal respectively and Derry, for once, seemed to be tuned into the qualifiers when brushing us aside last week.
Which game is on at 3pm?
Tyrone are dead man walking. They were a fading team in that semi final a few years ago and they still have not re-invented themselves. They may well have talent, but Harte isn’t the man to progress them. They need to move on.
They haven’t beaten anyone of note in years.
You base your hope of tyrone on perceived talent, yet ignore the clear talent available in Tipp.
We should probably bring this qualifier talk back to the main football championship thread but I’m not going to lose any sleep over it.
No I’m basing it on the fact that Tyrone are a seasoned Championship side with plenty of experience beyond this stage of the Championship and Tipperary have very little The Tipp side seems to be quite heavily backbones by their u21 side which Tyrone beat in the u21 final recently.
There is no real basis for a Tipp victory here rather than hope or potential. Out of these two teams Tyrone are the one will all the substance, 8 of tomorrow’s starting team played in an AI semi final.
Neither have Tipperary.
Cough.
And Tyrone have clearly beat a higher level of opponent that Tipperary in the past 3 years.
Tipp’s Championship wins over the past two years have been against Waterford, Louth, Limerick, Laois and Longford. Only Laois have played above Div 3 in that time and they lost to Antrim this year so it’s not a glowing endorsement of their Championship record.
Tyrone have beaten Meath (x2), Kildare, Down and Monaghan in that period all of whom have operated at Div 2 or higher in that time period. All the stats and form book lies with Tyrone.
Louth may have won the Leinster title in 2010 but I don’t think they count as a team of note these days.
You’re hurting me here sid
So what? They were not the topic.
Eh, yes they are.
I said tyrone have not beaten anyone of note in years, that’s the statement that was responded to.
Are you simple?
It’s a simple debate, Kevin.
Tyrone have beaten the teams that were mentioned, Meath x 2, Kildare, Down, Monaghan.
That’s a clearly higher standard of opponent than what Tipperary have beaten.
Meath, Down & Kildare? Fuck off. Teams of note my ass.
My argument started on and continued on the basis that there is no form line to suggest Tipperary will beat or are a better team than Tyrone. Tyrone are a far more seasoned outfits as the facts suggest. 8 of the team that started tomorrow started in an All Ireland semi-final two years ago.
There is far more substance to Tyrone than Tipp and that’s just a cold hard fact.
You conveniently left out Monaghan.
Who of note have Tipperary beaten?
If Tyrone beat Tipperary, will they have beaten a team of note?
If Tipperary beat Tyrone, will they have beaten a team of note?
They’re all a higher level of team than Tipperary beat.
You were talking Kildare up during the week as well, you utter mongtard.
