Number 4 seed and last year’s beaten finalist Kei Nishikori has been knocked out in the first round by Benoit Paire.

Any chance for nadal? 20/1 shot

Murray sees of Kyrgios in 4 sets. Wasn’t a surprise really.

Kei getting knocked out in the first round is a surprise but the guy is held together with blu-tac so you never know what you are going to get with him.

@anon25556527, Hard to know what to think about Nadal? He has been shit most of the year and is lacking confidence. It is possibly for him to turn that form around here but I cant see him beating Djokovic though.

Mannarino serving to go 2-0 up on Murray here.

Time to lump on murray?

He’s still 1/2 FFS sakes.

5/4 momentarily on pp

2-0 lead in tennis is not like a 2-0 lead in soccer. Murray would be expected to beat Mannarino in straight sets every day of the week. Breaking Mannarino in his first service game of the third set, he’s still favourite to win.

Hmmmm, are you sure about this pal? I’ll have to look it up but I was always under the impression it was first to 3 wins in soccer.

Keep on point.

If you look at betting markets throughout a tennis match, odds don’t change hugely if a top player falls 2 sets down against a player who he’s a good bit superior to. It was the same at the Championship when Djokovic went 2 sets down to Kevin Anderson. The overall match odds barely changed.

If an outsider goes 2 up in a soccer match, there invariably is a re-casting of the odds.

Agreed. I still expected even money at worse for a struggling Murray. Nick the Greek could have done him, and now this joker. Is all right in the world of Murray?

Murray has had a reasonable enough year. He’s comfortably ensconced as the World Number 3 player put bar his win in Montreal has come up a good bit short against both Djokovic and Federer all year. He has been a bit patchy so far this week but he’s getting through and should improve.

It was never in doubt that Murray was going to loose that match even at 2 sets down you knew he would win. Poor Jack Sock yesterday having to retire in his match because of the heat and cramp.

I haven’t seen too much of the tournament so far. Will be getting into it properly now over the weekend. What’s going on with all these retirements. Is it oppressively hot and humid in New York at the moment?

It was 40 degrees during the day yesterday when they were playing. The big guns are going ok in the mens even though Nadal still looks ropey. The real matches begin over the next few days. The women’s is a disaster, nearly all the top 10 seeds are gone.

The big guns of course in Australia and the US never really get exposed to those conditions as they are invariably allocated evening slots.

Loads of temptation today with the tennis, but waiting for the late match between Raonic and Lopez. I’ll have a nice few bob on Rainoc at 1.58 on betfair.

Lopez was dead on his feet against Fish on Wednesday and played a long doubles game yesterday. Hoping the not too trustworthy Canadian will benefit from being fresher.
