Its a noteworthy achievement for Waterford to follow up the minor win of 2013 with an U21 three years later. There’s been quite a poor conversion rate of late of following up minor All Ireland wins with an U21 All Ireland win three years on. There was a five in a row stretch in the 1980’s with Kilkenny (1984), Tipperary (1985), Galway (1986), Limerick (1987) and Cork (1988). In the 28 years since 1988 its only happened six times - Kilkenny (1994), Cork (1998), Kilkenny (2006), Galway (2007), Tipperary (2010) and now Waterford (2016).

Not telling you, pal.

Fucking pathetic attendance. Not even 15k

We were trying to work this out. How many people do the terraces hold? Both stands were maybe 80% full. Semple holds nearly 50k full does it not?

I think it’s 55k. Each section in the stands holds approx 1k

There was 26,000 or thereabouts at the Munster Final this year. People not travelling anymore.

Sky Sports doing untold damage to attendances.

I really, ly thought there would be closer to 25k there yesterday.
In 2001 there was almost 32k for the Limerick Wexford final.

So there were no more than 6 empty sections between both stands I’d guess. Which means they get around 35k into the terraces. Not sure about that…

Waterford made up to 80/90% of the attendance. There wasn’t 2,000 there from Galway. Can’t really blame them I suppose when such a hiding was inevitable.

There was no more than 700 people there from Galway btw.

A good sign to be honest. The Lk team those years had too many at the games . A u21 team should not be getting those crowds . To be fair Wexford had a big crowd too . GAlway folk have a more measured attitude to underage hurling .

One of the issues is that the game is now played on a Saturday evening. Up to a few years ago, the u21 final was played on the Sunday after the senior. But then they changed it to accommodate the camogie.

You sexist pig.

14k is a good attendance for an under-21 final held at 5pm on a Saturday which was rightly assumed by pretty much everybody to be a foregone conclusion.

I don’t know chief to be honest. I remember reading group somewhere that the stands in Thurles hold circa 1k per section
