Some weekend of hurling there.
Ta. I remember him being brilliant one year 2005 I think. Tyrone had savage forwards on those teams.
2008 I’d say.
Mugsy and O’Neill had their best years in 2005 - O’Neill winning footballer of the year and Mugsy scoring that wonder goal v Dublin so McCullagh wasn’t getting much of a look in that year.
In 2008 we had Canavan retired, O’Neill having an exile before returning for the final and Mugsy struggling for form which opened the door for both him and Tommy McGuigan who had great years. McCullagh would probably have been in the mix for an All Star had an injury not have forced him off in the first half of the final.
He only played one more season after 08 before retiring.
What’s the state of play with my beloved Scotstown in the repechage section of the Monaghan championship since we had a shock loss some weeks back?
I’d swerve them mate to be honest. Was at that Latton game and we looked lethargic. Stumbled over the line last day against a muck outfit. Wouldn’t be surprised if Ballybay beat us next day out.
If I remember correctly Mugsy was having a poor year in 2005 up until that goal. He was unstoppable afterwards. Some of those Dublin Tyrone matches were electric. Mickey was way too cute for Pillar who was a dangerous fool.
Possibly was, Mugsy was very much a hit and miss player during his career. He didn’t have the most conventional off field life for most GAA players. A pure joy to watch though as you never knew what he was going to do next.
Killyclogher had a very impressive 10+ victory over Errigal last night.
Clonaslee up to their old tricks in Laois tonight. A former All Star nominee could be finally about to get that long due lifetime ban from what I’ve been told. Fucking tramp.
My beloved Scotstown have beaten Ballybay 0-14 to 1-9 to advance to another Monaghan SFC final against old rivals Clontibret.
Kilmoyley & Ballyduff played out an absolute thriller in the Kerry Senior Hurling final yesterday in horrendous conditions.
The duffers got off to a flyer racing into a 1-3 to no score lead after 5 minutes, but Kilmoyley settled and the teams were level at half time after the B’duff keeper let a clanger drop in over his shoulder.
Kilmoyley stretched to three ahead after the restart and the two sides swapped points for the next twenty minutes with Kilmoyley unable to get more than 3 ahead for any stretch. The Duffers got a last minute goal and looked to have secured the draw, before Kilmoyley’s half forward landed as good a clutch score as you’ve ever seen from right on the sideline with the two minutes of injury time elapsed. The referee in classic GAA fashion allowed one last attack (and perhaps mindful of what happened to the last referee in a tight Ballyduff v Kilmoyley match) awarded a soft free on the Kilmoyley 65, which the duffers duly landed. The draw a fair result in the end, an absolute cracker. Some unbelievable scores considering conditions. Replay Saturday week.
Final score Kilmoyley 1-17 Ballyduff 2-14
A Clontibret side on the wane. Backboned by the minor team that made consecutive Ulster minor club finals in 01/02, this may be last chance saloon for a lot of their old warriors. 3 of the last 4 finals have been Scotstown/Clontibret affairs and the game will inevitably hinge on the influence McManus is allowed to have. Kieran Hughes has been playing at 6 lately, and will likely shadow the Clontibret talisman.
I thought Ballybay would have taken Scotstown, but now we’ve got over that hurdle, going back to back for the first time since '92 is very much on the cards.
A Laois senior hurling game was marred by violence on Saturday night, after a mass brawl erupted between Clonaslee St Manman’s and Castletown in O’Moore Park.
Players, mentors and supporters from both sides became involved in the brawl, which went on for a number of minutes before referee Kieran Bowe could eventually restore order.
When things had finally calmed down, Clonaslee St Manman’s goalkeeper James Young, and Castletown forward Kevin Conroy, were both shown red cards.
The incident arose with three minutes of normal time remaining in the game, after a mistake from Clonaslee St Manman’s goalkeeper James Young saw Castletown claim their second goal of the game, and open up a four point lead.
Moments after the ball had crossed the line, Young became involved in an altercation with a Castletown forward, during which he appeared to swing his hurley at the Castletown player.
That sparked a furious response from some Castletown players, and ugly scenes quickly followed as players and supporters became involved.
Both clubs have form when it comes to matters such as these, although Clonaslee have been hauled before Laois GAA on numerous occasions.
In 2010, their IHC semi-final ended in controversy over a disputed goal, as players and mentors argued with referee Liam Moran at the final whistle. The fall out from that eventually saw the club banned from playing games at home for five years, fined €2,000, as well as a whole host of individual suspensions.
The Laois CCC were due to deal with the incident at their meeting last night (Monday), after reading the referee’s report.
Controversy reigned at the JHC ‘C’ final replay in O’Moore Park last Wednesday night, as Slieve Margy withdrew their players from the field before the final whistle.
After a fight broke out with about five minutes remaining Slieve Margy, who had a number of players suffer injuries in the brawl, informed the referee they would not be completing the game, for what they felt was the safety of their players.
Camross were leading 1-10 to 0-6 at the time and seemed destined to win the game, but it remains to be seen what the fate of this competition will now be. It is expected to be dealt with by the CCC at some stage in the near future, possibly this week, although there was no indication on what the likely outcome would be.
As for the game itself, Camross got off to the brighter start with a point from Greg Cuddy. This was followed up minutes later with one from John Cuddy, to give the men in black and amber a two point advantage early on. Ollie Dowling popped up with another score soon after as Camross lead by three after ten minutes.
Slieve Margy finally hit their first score of the game soon after that, with a free coming from the hurl of Conor Harrington. A few minutes later and he had added two more frees to his name to level the scores. He came up with another free soon after, and Slieve Margy took the lead for the first and last time in the game.
Camross then fired back at Slieve Margy with scores from Greg Cuddy, an excellent score from James Moore, and a free by Greg Cuddy. The only goal of the game came before the interval, and it went the way of Camross, as they looked in cruise control. A long free was sent into the square, and Aidan Carroll was the man to knock it into the back of the net. The score at half time read Camross 1-6, Slieve Margy 0-4.
First half substitute Fintan Palmer was the man to kick off the scoring for Camross, as they began their domination in the match once again. Greg Cuddy soon followed suit with a well taken free. Further scores came from Seamus Kennedy, and another Greg Cuddy free. Camross were in front by a strong nine points at this stage of the game, as Slieve Margy were yet to register a point in the second half.
However, the last game ended up a draw after Slieve Margy’s brilliant comeback, so at this point of time you felt the game was not over. A point from a free by Conor Harrington gave Slieve Margy some hope, but they were struggling up front, with all of their scores coming from placed balls by Harrington.
A few minutes later and Harrington popped over another free to reduce the gap to seven. However, Slieve Margy were beginning to run out of time, and they did not look like hitting the back of the net anytime soon.
After that, the unfortunate scenes which ultimately marred the game unfolded, and while the action ended there, we could yet be hearing more about this game.
I think its important to note the Clubs involved there
Clonaslee
Castletown
Camross
3 clubs who have all been bound to the peace in the past 10 years.
Friend of the Forum Gary (no longer Psycho) Walsh was hurling with Slieve Margy.
Youngs “altercation” was flaking a lad head high with the goalies hurl, that set it all off.
I’m just going to leave this here
Terrible writing by Indo. 30 is now young to be a Garda?
Fucking hell.
Recognise the Portlaoise midfielder getting flaked?
Camross generally only give it when they’ve gotten it first. They’re good like that.
