Fella in red some hardy buck!
Didn’t take a fomp out of him. The other fella was most likely hospitalized.
That’s a disgraceful clash. Could one of the teams not have changed jerseys?
Pfft, ones wearing orange and the other red, perfectly distinguishable.
The second swing in the trilogy of pulls was by far the most agricultural.
I had a right good laugh talking about this incident with the protagonist in a Dublin nightclub that shall remain unnamed some years ago.
I’d forgotten that. The punch at the end just for good measure
Two yellows?
What was the name of that Laois lad used play for Mitchels again? Great Hurler but wouldn’t be a man to build team unity or financial solidity around??
Before my time DM but I’ve heard a variety of stories. Solohead appearing in their first senior final in decades tried to rough up the Galtee boys before through in. All hell broke loose as Bansha would have had a few hardy boys who could look after themselves and more like Paddy Morrisey and Seamus Mccarthy (current compromise rules selector). It was Paddy Russell’s first big local refereeing job and he had no control. He mentuoned it briefly in his book. The row lasted about ten minutes with the crowd going in. It made the front pages of the national papers.
The amazing thing is that Paddy sent off a few from both sides and then the match was played with a few other flare ups. A few huge suspensions were handed out afterward. Both clubs suffered in the ten years afterward, Bansha however recovered but Solohead have fell to junior b. They’d still be fair bitter about it there.
Oh yeah and Bansha won handy.
O’Hara. A dangerous bastard.
That’s the lad.
Big crowd
Not seen him or heard anything of him for a long time now.
No, me neither. Heard some less than complimentary things about him all the same.
Solohead won a couple of West Football Championships in the 70’s. They were a decent team but mad bastards by all accounts. Galtee Rovers won 3 co championships around that time.
Solohead threatened to sue Paddy Russell after the book was released but decided against it in the end. It was widely known that all hell was going to break loose that day as a huge crowd turned up. The parade was meant to be scandalous as players from both sides were spitting at each other.
Clonoe and Coalisland won today to secure their semi-final spots.
Semi-final draw:
Clonoe v Coalisland - Clonoe to shade this one
Dromore v Killyclogher - the best two sides in Tyrone at the minute. Dromore will be slight favourites but it really is a 50/50 game. I’d expect the winner of this to go on and win the final and I think the victor may well take an Ulster title this year.
Fair play to them
Oh aye, whatever means necessary. Pity they didn’t finish the job. There’s been plenty of times over the past 10 years when teams have had the chance pull the trigger, didnt, and got railroaded in the replay. The most recent example was Emo in last years final, when they were 5 up at one stage in the second half. Portlaoise brought on Zach, grabbed a draw, and annihilated them in the replay.
Incidentally, Emo were relegated to day.
