Dublin isn’t a priority for GC either. And that’s just as serious a problem
Might be true too.
But compare them to Mayo footballers or Galway hurlers?
Great win for Cuala today. 9 points didn’t half flatter them in the end. Murphy saved about 4 shots that should have been goals added to the poor wides they hit.
They continously ran at Olg from midfield led by Sean Tracey. O Callaghan has really ignited their attack and is a great foil for Schutte, Cronin and David Tracey. Their backs are no daws either and won most breaks.
I’d say he’d be equally ruinous to both
Daly got more out of Dublin than he should have. Why can’t Ger? Because they don’t want to kill themselves for him - and that’s his (and the DCB’s) issue. They see through him
My point is it shouldn’t have been about him.
I have an anecdotal story from oz with a high level footballer (he won AFL grand final) and we were now at another club together. We both agreed the Head Coach was a total bluffer, but his attitude was very interesting. He basically said that is irrelevant. I need to be the absolute best i can be within his plans. I can challange things as i go in a small way, and if asked my opinion end of season i may give it. But otger than that i give absolutely everything.
Thats how the majority of top players approach things. And if real change is needed they will attack as a group. So those dublin pkayers are not unified enough either.
Could that be a difference between a professional and an amateur though?
There is more incentive to give your all as at the end of the day, it’s your career, it’s beneficial for you. When it’s an amateur sport and the team you play with will be your team until the end then giving up a lot of your life for an endeavour you don’t feel will achieve anything can understandably be viewed as futile.
Thats a fair point. But are we not sick to the teeth of listening to the GPA and some of these langers saying they live more or less professional lives. Being a dublin player can be somewhat financially beneficial too.
I wonder are these boys that left still GPA members?
I’m largely with you, i think its a choice. But tgese lads cannot have it both ways. Expect managemebts to be unbelievably professional and they won’t commit?
Mayo and Galway demanded better but they fought for it and at least backed it up with effort, if not trophies.
I think that is fine with sides who genuinely are competing at the very top level.
In football anyway outside of Kerry, Dublin, Mayo, Tyrone and Donegal at the minute, players are regularly walking away from county teams as a lot of them feel disillusioned with the commitment demanded and the lack of genuine chance of success. From an Ulster perspective, David Giveny, Cian Mackey and Fergal Flanagan have all announced they won’t be committing to Cavan next year, 7 or 8 of the Derry side that went out to Tipperary have withdrawn from the panel this year. I’d imagine it’s hard to do it year on year when you know there is little chance of success.
I don’t like the idea of players ousting a manager either.
So some of them are of the ilk you talk about - who want to play whatever the manager, and others are just not willing to sacrifice for a bluffer. Hard call to make I suppose
I don’t really agree with players calling the shots on managers and this lot chose GC as they wanted an outside manager over Shay so I suppose they’re left with their lot. I’d agree they’re not unified. But that’s Gers bad - he’s divided them so bad it’s reached to the back room teams
No its not healthy, but the GAA has created the monster.
On many levels, but i think the lack of meaningful competitions is arguably the no.1 issue.
As provincials become more and more devalued its really only about All Irelands.
A division 1 & 2 is a must really, otherwise the cycle will continue.
Well first port of call is them unifying themselves. Best teams are self run, monitir themselves and set standards.
Now i agree that has to be facilitated from management and if GC is not doing that then get rid of him.
Players ousting management is not ideal, but nowadays i believe the players in some teams and counties (and remember these lads are looking over at Jim Gavin) know more about whats needed than alot of managers. So unify, ask for what you think is reasonable, open the floor, and if shut down without explanation or satisfaction then get rid.
Dr Crokes beaten today in east Kerry final by Rathmore .
Rathmore are a fine outfit
God ya.
A tasty (chocolate) crumb for Rathmore.

No need for a name change or your smart aleccy Sidney !!!
There is actually a pub in Rathmore called the Star Bar believe it or not.
Your laboured effort at a Donaghy related joke was not necessary.
