I dont think anyone is saying it was a gimmee. He had a gimmee in the first half and missed that one though. But for Mayo to make this breakthrough, its those sort of frees you have to nail. It may sound simplistic to say there was 6 minutes on injury time left and Rocks was a at the end, but O Connor had the chance to put Mayo in front. They did not get another shooting chance again. At that level, absolutely, you should have a free taker who will hit those frees. As Kev said, no one was surprised that he missed. If Rock was hitting that same free (and off the ground too I might add) I would have been surprised if he missed.
I just want to clarify that you donât believe they were of similar ease? That they were two entirely differing situations. It didnât seem like this from your initial post?
Is this in reference to my post? If it is, Iâd like to clarify for your benefit. I brought it up in reference to @Julio_Geordio mentioning the referee adding time on to give Mayo a shot to equalise. You could also say he added on 2 minutes due to the fuckacting and the time taken in taking the free. I have already said I donât blame Rock for taking that time.
This is specious reasoning. Take the game on its merits yesterday. Did the ref influence the outcome? To any objective observer, yes, absolutely.
My problem lads then saying it was within mayorâs powers to win it and they should have taken it out of the refs hands. Are they expected to have to win a game by an additional 2,3,4 points or whatever amount you consider the ref influenced it? Bollox! In the same breath then Dublin are lauded as âgreatâ without acknowledging that if a proper ref had made the correct big calls, it may have been a very different outcome.
