Those who sell umbrellas ?
It takes a certain type of obtuseness to believe that Kerry didnât swat Tyrone away like a troublesome Carkie once they became a threat in 2015. Their foot was off the gas. Schhhhhtaaaar was on chapter 15 of his memoirs and Tyrone threatened briefly before shitting the pot and losing by 4. Itâs not a matter for shame. They worked hard and played well but were way below the required level.
So why were they attempting to give penalties away in the dying seconds?
That would be the same Donaghy who was stewing on the bench after Justy McMahon put him in his back pocket again.
Itâs hard to write your memoirs while on the pitch fool. Tyrone were bested. Easily when it mattered. Itâs history. Deal with it.
Odd that you think it was easy when they were counting their blessing to a referee ignoring a blatant foul in the box late on when it was so easy.
Easy is what the Ulster Champions found it the last time they played Dublin in Championship.
Odd that you think a âfoulâ being awarded would have reversed a four point win.
There were 3 points in it at the time.
Odd you proclaim to recall the incidents yet your memory seems very hazy.
Odd that you disregard points that were actually scored but believe in points that might have been scored if a particular referee agreed with you in the past. I thought you dealt in facts?
Fact: Tyrone have a large mug of tae they were sent home with by Kerry in 2015.
Dreadful standard of banter here over the last eight hours.
Tyrone have looked good against under performing or weak teams. Down are physically weak. Donegal went with a load of young lads and are worn anyway.
I have no doubt they will put it up to dublin for a good while. But class is class.
Systems are good for new/young teams or teams lacking in confidence. At some point that has to turn into personal freedom and a philosophy on the field. Micky Harte slowed that process significantly and they are still not there.
Plus Dublin simply have 21 better players than Tyrones 21 best. Significantly overall.
I donât think itâs a foregone conclusion by any means mate. I think all 4 teams left are well capable of beating each other on their day but Tyrone are the ones I would trust least to get the job done.
Enough about next Sunday.
UP MAYO
So youâve now changed the argument youâre trying to have.
Weird.
He hasnât changed any argument.
Heâs merely pointing out that you blaming the ref for a 4 point defeat is laughable.
I know how games like this go. History is a great predictor.
I have given exactly how i think this game will go.
If Tyrone brought in someone else, like Canavan, last year iâm nearly sure iâd be much more iffy about it now.
Questions & approach for Dublin;
- Dublin will play the way they have all along. Especially defensively
- They will match up really strongly on Donnelly and Harte. And they will match them with players who can hurt them going the other way. McMahon and Small i would suggest. Fitzsimons on Bradley possibly. Cooper will get another job. They do however have to deal with the influe ce of Donnelly and Harte. To not will give Tyrone a leg up.
3.They will keep the forward line wide in attack and McCarthy and Killkenny will look to break tackles and Fenton will be a pillar for them in attack, manipulating the ball thru the 50/60M mark. He only has to do it 2-3 times to really upset Tyrone. - They will have to be be patient and retain and switch possession alot. But they have the ball players, height and strength to do that. Keep doing it till Tyrone get pulled out or a chance oresents itself 35-50 out. And it will. They will have to execute that tobget into tyrone heads. But if they kick 2-3 points from outside Tyrones âzoneâ in first 20 mins then Tyrone will be fucked. Fucked if do fucked if they donât. And thats where systems fail against great players. Dublin have great players. It dies not matter if its Mannion or Callaghan or Rock. Fenton can score, all the middle 8 can score freely really bar McCarthy somewhat but then he can get goals.
Question for Tyrone
1.Who will mark Fenton? It cannot be Cavanagh or any of the standard midfielders.
2. can the attacking half backs Tyrone have actually spend a game marking Connolly, Con Callaghan, Andrews or Flynn. McCann is a serious athlete, but not an outstanding defender and his position is questionable. He is often taken out with handpasses over the top.
3. Tyrone have so many jobs to sort before they worry about their own game because if you donât do something about Mannion, Callaghan, Connolly, McCarthy, Fenton and Killkenny they will hurt you. The 1st point Mannion got against Monaghan is worth looking at. Its one of the best scores i saw in a long time. I think it was Walshe marked and pushed Mannion out excellently. But mannion just made a slight shuffle and kicked a ridiculously easy looking score. But it was far from easy. Dublin can do this. Kerry only have Gaeney who can do that. Dublin have 5 players that good. Tyrone none.
- Tyrone will keep it tight for long periods. They will have to absolutely maximize any real counter attack weaknesses and score goals. But they have never counter attacked against a team with Dublins athleticism. Dublin will push them wide at every chance. One slowed pass means Cian Sull is back in place. ONE. If you watch Dublin this is what they do. One hand on, one forced change of direction, ine extra lateral oass. Job done. This is how people who can coach skills to a high level do. If Dublin have a system/tactic or whatever this is it. But i would say its a philosophy.
- Can Tyrones inside backs stay disciplined for 80 mins when their protection is dragged out? Even when winning games comfortably Tyrone have showed illdiscipline with mcNamee and McCarron fouling when tired. Imagine how tired they will be next sunday???
There are simply way too many questions for Tyrone to answer. I think they need 2 goals minimum, probably 3 to win. Cannot see them getting more than 1. And thats the bottom line. They wonât score enough. They can match Dublin physically all they want. They need to match them skill wise, and i donât think they havs a hope on that level.
Thatâs a weird interpretation of my comment. As far off the mark as Tyrone were in 2015. Or 2016 when they failed to beat the perennial bottlers of Mayo who only had 14 men.
Dreadful standard of banter here over the last eight hours.
I will accept that, coming from you.
No doubt that was the refâs fault too. He probably didnât send off enough Mayo players.
Youâre saying going wide is a positive for Dublin yet going wide is a negative for Tyrone.
Thatâs contradictory and doesnât make sense.
But if they kick 2-3 points from outside Tyrones âzoneâ in first 20 mins then Tyrone will be fucked. Fucked if do fucked if they donât. And thats where systems fail against great players. Dublin have great players.
Dublin had greater players in 2014 and were 9-4 up kicking points from 50 metres out for fun.
Then it stopped.
Flynn, Brogan and McAuley were great. They no longer are. Connolly was great. He could be again, it remains to be seen but there are legitimate question marks about whether he will be anywhere near that level against Tyrone after his time out.

Very reminiscent of how you saw Kildare v Armagh.
Your problem is that you cannot ever see how your line of thinking might be wrong.
Itâs perfectly logical to think that Dublin might win, itâs just weird to think they canât possibly lose.
Its not contradictory at all, just a crank call from you. Tyrone and Dublin play different games. Tyrone not running thru the middle on turnover means the end of their attacks generally. Not so with Dublin. They can play it many ways
Brogan has been excellent as a sub this year, absolutely brilliant. His intelligent movement is better than ever.
Flynn showed much better the last game than he had in a while.
You said the other day Connolly âhad toâ play. Why? Because he is a great foitballer thats why. Now thats contradictory as we are talking about the actual same person.
Youâre saying going wide is a positive for Dublin yet going wide is a negative for Tyrone.
Thatâs contradictory and doesnât make sense.
Of course it makes sense. Tyrone counterattack at speed and then sit back into their defensive shape. If they end up going wide while attacking its going wrong.
Dublin play a gainst mass defences all the time. They need to go wide to spread the defenders and wait for runners from deep or to work a shot.
