Cavanagh and to a lesser extent Harte salvaged some credit in that game. They are still valid selections for me. Glad someone else commented how farcical McCannâs standing about doing nothing was.
Maybe their mother over fed the 2 of them in the morning because they were not at the races at all.
Nominations ya. But when it comes to it i think if Parsons is any good at all in final he may get one with McCarthy but its most likely Fenton & McCarhty. Although you could argue Killkenny is really playing midfield.
Dublin could get 10/11
Yes, heâs been good and but I think Harrison has been a better defender. Heâs the best man marker on the team by far and not only has won so much of the ball played into him, he has also been outstanding at closing space and applying pressure when he has to switch onto the man with the ball.
Barrett did well both days against Kerry and kicked a nice point 2nd day (after ballooning one wide in the drawn game when Mayo needed an equaliser). He was in trouble when Barry John Keane came on though, and on both days he was skinned by Keane for a point almost as soon as he was on, with the drawn game score being a crucial one.
While Iâd agree with you that it should be more or less 15 between Mayo & Dublin, the all stars are a political beast. Generally at least 4 teams represented, usually 5 or 6 and itâd be very unusual not to have semi finalist represented. No great underdog story in the back door this year which is usually worth an all star, so someone like Roscommon could end up with one. Something like 2 Kerry, 1 Tyrone, and 12 divided between Mayo & Dublin depending on who wins.
Paul Geaney gets one.
Colm Cavanagh has a chance depending on the final.
It could well be 14 from Dublin & Mayo.
An homage to Anton O Toole, the original Blue Panther.
Its a cool name I guess. OâToole himself would be baffled by it Iâd say.
Thatâs him holding up the banner himself
Keegan to mark Kilkenny the next day? Heâs not used to being man marked and Dublin are used to putting everything through him in their build ups. Also keeps Keegan out around the middle of the field.
Age 30 or over All-Stars
1 David Clarke (Mayo)
2 Keith Higgins (Mayo)
3 Brendan Donaghy (Armagh)
4 Chris Barrett (Mayo)
5 Killian Young (Kerry)
6 Darren Hughes (Monaghan)
7 Colm Boyle (Mayo)
8 Colm Cavanagh (Tyrone)
9 Seamus OâShea (Mayo)
10 Paul Flynn (Dublin)
11 Sean Cavanagh (Tyrone)
12 Sean Armstrong (Galway)
13 Conor McManus (Monaghan)
14 Kieran Donaghy (Kerry)
15 Andy Moran (Mayo)
Ya i think so.
You canât get them all right so its probably about trying to win the 5/6 major ones right in 4-2 kinda victory.
Its the one area Dublin might struggle a little is now marking up all Mayos forwards/midfield and attacking half backs. As brilliant as they are all in the back 8 lets say, i would say inly Small, Sullivan and Fitzsimons are absokutely top class man markers. And if they give too many jobs then is the attacking machine as efficient.
Mayo now have a number of players who need minding and sacrificing Keegan is no problen at all.
In fact Mayos half backs need to be minded, not to mind McLoughlin (who seems back to his best), Moran, Doherty (who actually could negate one of Dublins attacking backs too in a reverse role), Cillian & Duirmuid OâConnor (he is getting brilliant at âghostingâ around the place, and hard to track).
Surely donnacha OâConnor beats Paul Flynn
This had been mentioned here before, but I didnât realise the Dublin supporters on the Hill actually attacked the GardaĂ that day. Despicable carryon. Theyâve always tried to mimic the British. cc @ChocolateMice
I think Keith Higgins has to get one.
He had one pathetic attempt at a challenge, or more the lack of one, when he stopped and let Keane shoot unopposed.
I donât think heâs up to much as a back.
Player of the year is between Con OâCallaghan and Andy Moran depending on who wins the final.
Enda Smith from Roscommon could be in with a shout.
He was excellent all year up to the quarter final replay.
