Its a bad result this for the GAA

Aside from the croke park thing and the can of worms it now opens regarding dublin’s home game v another provincial champion and the fairness of that , What it does here is really brings home how the sky deal is now impacting people, whilst before the argument was made shur its on SKY they can still go to the game, npw that option is closed as the capacity here is limited so people now can only see the game if they head to the boozer or sign up for sky,
We should prep joe duffy for a discussion re the sky deal because this is going to come roaring now
For sky, they might get a handful of new subscibers but are they still going to send cameras to 2 separate venues on Saturday evening?
The gah’s famous “double header” concept here could be at an end for the football championship also-
is it still relevant for round 4 of the qualifiers i wonder ? i remember 2016 going to croker for cork donegal and obviously leaving before mayo and westmeath due to lack of interest
are they neutral venue? ( well until the day dublin are involved i suppose)

Just leave it with the same rules currently in force for the other qualifier rounds, 1st team out of the hat unless a Div 1/2 side is drawn at home to a Div 3/4 side.

“Double headers” are shit.

They had some function back in the early 1990s when pubs didn’t open on Sunday afternoons but now they always have an atmosphere somewhat akin to an airport terminal.

Supporters generally leave after the first match if their team has been involved in it, if their team is involved in the second match they generally don’t bother getting in for much of the first match, if any.

At best they’ll stand around drinking under the stand for a while before taking in the last 10 minutes of the first half and then say, “ah fuck this”, and go to the pub.

Teams are drawn from two different “hats*” in Round 4.

*The GAA use bowls. Personally I’d prefer a velvet bag with small numbered balls, as used in FA Cup draws up to 1995, aka “the draw” (cc: of @mickee321), which was the gold standard for sporting draws.

Double headers are shit enough, triple headers even worse.

2016 in Thurles you’d Limerick v Cork (football), Wexford v Cork (hurling) and Limerick v Clare (hurling). Needless to say a fairly shit atmosphere all through bar the last ten minutes of the first hurling match when the travelling Wexford crowd (about 1,500) made some noise.

I spent most of that Wexford game having pints under the stand.

The GAA just have this obsession of playing matches in white elephants, even when the crowd attending doesn’t justify it.

Makes far more sense to play games in smaller, tighter grounds that will generate an atmosphere. Newbridge will be absolutely hopping on Saturday if the match is anyway close, ditto the game in Brewster Park. They’d both have been played in near total silence in Croke Park.

Kildare have thrown down the gauntlet, other counties need to fight their corner now.

Kildare should be fucked out for being thick cunts. This game should be in Port Laoise or Tullamore or Carlow.

Thousands of people prevented from attending because of their lack of self belief. Fuck all difference to them if they were thrown out so no massive gamble.

Games promotion me hole.

And once again, playing the games in Croke Park would not have benefited the GAA financially. And we’re told by the players that they love playing in Croke Park.

You muldoon ape. Who gives a fuck if some spudmuncher from Kiltimagh can’t get a ticket? It’s Kildare’s home game by right and they’re entitled to play it in Newbridge. Should every game that’s going to be sold out be moved to a bigger venue to prevent peoples’ feelings being hurt?
