Those figures have been proven to be inaccurate. When Ewan enlisted the help of a Meath stats student to forward his argument he forgot/chose to ignore his journalistic tenet of verifying his sources. Those figures related to funding are what is received DIRECTLY to county boards. What is missing is the funding made to provincial councils who pay the GPOs in all the counties in their province. Those funding figures to the provincial councils (about €5m all in I think) are disclosed in the GAA A/cs but the subsequent breakdown to county is not. The only exception is Dublin who get their funding directly which is why the figures are skewed. This has been pointed out numerous times on Twitter to Ewan and on here by myself and others but yet the muldoons choose to conveniently ignore it.
They’ve asked for a meeting seeking clarification on the designation of venues as ‘home’, ‘away’ and ‘neutral’ in order to ensure that no team is afforded an unfair advantage.
Are you saying they ‘don’t have a leg to stand on’ in asking for this clarification?
In the period 2007-2017, Dublin received €16.6m in direct coaching assistance, €15.4m more than Cork, the next highest county, and €15.8m more than Galway (€784,077).
Connacht in its entirety collectively received €3.1m
I did. Theres lots not taken into account, the elephant in the room being sponsorship. dublin can argue that its each county’s responsibility to raise funds, and it is in a way. But their population and position as the capital and only sizable city means they will always do best on that front. But when you add the funding inequality on top of that… Plus the fact that the entire gaa built a stadium in dublin saving them having to do so…
Does the enjoy a charitable tax status, they certainly take government money. How can they justify its unequal distribution.
They can roll out the population argument all they want but the simple fact is that there is more money behind the GAA in Dublin than anywhere, how much was the sponsorship they signed with AIG?
do they do most of their training in Abbotstown for the County senior or where does anyone know?
Also what is being missed here is the ridiculous ease with which they can generate their revenue through advertising, marketing etc.
Given the number of TV appearances, the number of fans wearing jerseys and the target audience available it’s like fishing with dynamite for them to raise the fund whereas then you have the likes of Roscommon trying to compete with them in Division 1. There needs to be something akin to the salary cap in the NFL when it comes to spending on team prep etc.
